As I re-watch these tournaments from the 70s and early 80s I am struck by how well Nelson Burton, Jr. did the color commentary. He and Schenkel were truly the Madden-Summerall of bowling.

And for some reason only Schenkel was in Kingpin, with Burton replaced with a look-alike.

I can barely stand to watch any other bowler than Mark Roth! God bless him with his current health issues.

Alvin Lou....what a unique guy. He was the hot bowler there for an extremely short time, then disappeared. Seemed like a super nice guy.

When bowling wasn't ashamed of what it was. I hate what the product has become.

and that was the last time any professional bowler ever left the 1-2-4-7 on national television. :)

It is not easy to try to win 3 games against your fellow pros. Thanks for posting this. There was nothing like Chirs and Nelson with the bowling on Saturdays and then going right to WWOS with the legend Jim McKay.

Nelson Burton Jr. is so knowledgeable and has great skills. Why didn't he win more tournaments than Anthony or Roth?
@KeithFroehlich07

Because of Anthony and Roth.

He liked to rope the ball. He came from an era in which they didn't develop their hooking power.
