@@segaboy1773 The redesign {blue jersey} looks way better than those hideous things they wore when TB12 was there...The pants however need to be silver instead of blue {at home} the shoulder stripes on road jersey looks weird though. red/blue/red sequence is the same as the 85' Patriots they were spread apart though.
@@hollytrinity8012 I agree with that, but in my opinion, the original blue uniform looked the best. Better shade of blue, silver pants and the flying Elvis on the shoulders instead of stripes. The Drew Bledsoe era uniforms.
That was a great era for NFL football. A lot of movement from teams that had some lean years. The Browns came back, Eagles win the NFC title, play in the Super Bowl, and Buffalo and the Patriots are playoff-caliber teams. The Minuteman helmets and red visitors uniforms the Patriots used then were their best, IMO. Both teams had a bunch of great running backs. Patriots had Calhoun, Ferguson, Foreman, Ivory, and Oilers had Campbell, Carpenter and Wilson. This was a hard-hitting contest, no doubt.
@@mrtnt3462 I do believe you are correct, at least while he and Earl Campbell were still in their prime years together. because clearly, the Oilers didn't upgrade the Head coaching position, nor did they replace Pastorini [Stabler was washed up at this point] I know Pastorini seemed to not be the right fit for the Raiders even before his injury and his career was essentially over after that injury. I still believe Pastorini was the right QB for the Oilers
@@phoenixrison9883 Always thought Pastorini was underrated, the guy took a helluva beating and had some injuries before the big turnaround that affected his abilities later in his career, but he was one of the toughest QB's that ever played, often played hurt. Fans & teammates alike loved him. The trade shocked me & I thought at the time Houston got screwed as I really didn't think they could win with any other QB. The offense was tailor made for Pastorini. The fact that they were 6-3 at this point in the season was due more to the talent of the team as a whole than to Stabler.
@@mrtnt3462 Bum did a crap job coaching in 1980. Look at the games they lost that they should have won. Raiders defenders said the offense was like a high school football team. Plus Bum wouldn't relinquish his GM job (which he wasn't very good at either). He deserved to get canned after all his loud mouth guarantees that they were going to the Superbowl in 1980.

Whether you like it, Or you don't like it...THE TENNESSEE SB TEAM WAS THE BEST!! I DON'T GIVE A DAMN IF Y'ALL REFUSE TO AKNOWLEDGE IT...BUT IT'S THE SAME GODDAMNED TEAM!!! NOW PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT!!!
@@phoenixrison9883 you know...I never have looked at it that way... but you're absolutely right... it's the same franchise. I don't know how old you are...I don't know if you got to see those Oilers teams from the 70's. Perhaps it's the nostalgia, or I don't know what it is, but I will tell you one thing... the only reason why the Houston Oilers from that era did not reached the Super Bowl was the Pittsburgh Steelers.
You're wrong, & spelled "Glanville" completely wrong... When team makes the playoffs 3 consecutive seasons, compliles a 4-3 record in those 7 playoff games, with 3 of their 4 wins coming on the road, & all 3 of their losses to the eventual Super Bowl CHAMPS, it clearly illustrates there was nothing "underachieving" about Bum Phillip's teams. 👌 Additionally, his fine 1975 squad went 10-4, but missed the playoffs (along with 10-4 Miami). And consider all of the above facts, then plug-in the Oilers accomplished all that with a less than stellar Dan Pastorini, & then a fast fading Ken Stabler at QB. @whataboutrob442
Ha!! I remember watching this game as a little kid. I was a HUGE Steelers fan, & I remember they needed Houston to lose to make the playoffs, & after that Grogan pick I cried myself to sleep. I hated losing so much. Still do!
Earl Campbell started 15 regular season games he rushed for 1,934 yards... He had 98 yards in the playoff loss technically he rushed for over 2,000 yards in 16 starts including the playoff 2,032 yards in 16 games but yet he gets no credit for that feat.
He missed 10 quarters in all. Played 13.5 games plus playoff game. One of the greatest seasons ever by a RB. Earl's 4 200 yard games in 1980 is still an NFL record
I watched this as an 11 year old Oiler fan living in Cleveland. It all started with the hatred of the Steelers, and the Oilers seemed to be the only hope to dethrone the Steelers. That never happened, but I fell in love with Earl Campbell.
Such a shame those cute Oiler cheerleaders never got to cheer in a Superbowl. Houston could never secure a homefield advantage.1978-80. Chargers of course were a joke in the playoffs. 1979-82. Russ Francis who was just as good as Dave Casper would get a Superbowl ring with 49ers. One of Joe Montana's favorite target receivers.
Who would have thought the New England Patriots would win 6 Superbowls and the Oilers would disappear into oblivion. Pastorini for Stabler the most stupid trade in NFL history. Thank You! Titans. You gave that SOB Al Davis 2 Superbowls.
How so Snake? Pastorini never did anything with the Raiders. Broke his leg versus KC in 80 and then Jim Plunkett won both Super Bowls for Oakland in 80 and 83. Come on now.
Oilers were classic for trading away 1st rd draft picks getting old washed up players in return. Paul Brown used to take advantage of the poorly ran Oilers in early 70s with all kinds of trades. Rams in '71=74 had shit for draft picks because George Allen traded them all away for old guys when he was there. So Chuck Knox came along and built the Rams back by trading away John Hadl, Roman Gabriel, Ron Jaworski, James Harris, Pat Haden, he got at least 2 first rounders for each. Rams would win 12 games a year and win the West only to get beat by the Vikings or Cowboys till '79 when they made it to Super Bowl 14 with Vince Farragamo and lost to Steelers 35-19. OLd NFL Coaches were wheelers and dealers with well known players.
Historically, the Pats always had talent, it just took new ownership and a phenomenal coach to put everything together. Houston? Bum blew the best chance they ever had to win a super bowl by losing to the greatest team ever assembled.
@@DavidSmith-oh3re He did try to throw to Casper way too much. As a kid I thought he was the only guy who could actually catch, because he would only throw to Renfro once in awhile.
I'm glad I was too young to see this because I would've been pissed. I was upset seeing that horrible pass to end it. My guys showed a lot of fight and had a sense of urgency. I think they made the playoffs but I heard they didn't. This team was too good to miss the playoffs. Now that I think about it, I think we went 10-6 and missed the playoffs
Noticed after this week, ABC changed the opening theme back to what had been the theme from 1976-'79. I wonder if there was a copyright issue that forced ABC to return to the former theme.
