It's One O'Clock...Time for Detroit's Favorite Movie Host....Bill Kennedy!
Originally aired sometime between February and May, 1980 (Sorry that I don't have a more specific date). WKBD was an independent station through Field Communications.
Bill Kennedy was a staple of Detroit TV from the 1960s to the early 1990s. He was an actor during the "golden" age of Hollywood and returned to Detroit and hosted this popular show for many years. Clips like this are hard to find on the net.
In this clip Bill Kennedy introduces the Humphrey Bogart movie "To Have and Have Not"

Please, please Channel 50 create a Bill Kennedy at the Movies RU-vid channel and upload all his old shows! I love his story telling and historical information of all the stars before, during and after the show and the stars that came to visit his studio. I used to watch him after morning kindergarten and lunch on Dad's La-Z-boy where he knew I would fall asleep for an afternoon nap w/o protest. Never under-estimate the brilliance of a shift working Dad!

My God, what memories. Bill Kennedy lived across the street from my grandparents in G.P. Shores. I used to go over to his house and swim in his pool with his daughters. This is exactly how I remember him looking. He would answer the front door wearing a smoking jacket and an ascot, cigarette in hand. Always welcomed me into his home.

Good 'ol Bill. I was in college in Detroit in the late 70's when I discovered him. I was already a fan of classic movies and Bill was the perfect conduit to a daily dose of films from the 30s and 40s. He was a character and made you laugh. I loved his anecdotes about being in the film industry during the 40s. I was watching Mr Skeffington, in which Bill plays one of Betty Davis's admirers. Seeing him brought back memories of Detroit and I wondered if RU-vid had any of Bill's movie intro's. Sure enough, here he is. He would have been the perfect host for TCM.

My Dad was often mistaken for Bill Kennedy. In the early Seventies we were at Cedar Point in line for the water ride and the young girl working the line yelled OMG it's Bill Kennedy. She ran over to the booth and came back with a pen and paper and asked for his autograph. Dad asked her for her name and he signed a sweet note to her. She teared up and hugged him and said she had watched him her whole life. He was a bookkeeper. When we got off the ride Dad yelled her name and said See ya in the movies. She had the sweetest star struck smile. I miss my Dad and Bill Kennedy.

As a kid I had two options in the summer. Go outside, get some fresh air and exercise, or sit in the basement and watch TV. I, of course, chose TV. I had no particular attachment to old movies, but Bill Kennedy was the only thing on and I sure as.... well I wasn't going to waste my life playing outside when there was a TV around, so I watched old movies and listened to Bill Kennedy. Fast forward 40 years and my love of old movies is a direct product of Bill's show. I love the fact that I was exposed to these films at such a young age. Thanks Bill! And thanks TelevisionDetroit for posting this.

Remember him well at CKLW, when I grew up in Detroit. I remember him doing the commercials for Bonbuilt home improvement.
