@kevinwoplin9322..an old school beautician used to cut my hair - much better than the local barbers.. her shop was small and I remember waiting until one of the sinks were available so they could wash my hair. Same there ! Many perms going on and waiting for them to neutralise.. and It reeked back there I’d breathe through my mouth while the woman shampooed me.
I wish I could find a place I could get my hair done like that! I'm scared to go to a place and ask for a perm in these days, because any current videos I look up, the curls never looks as tight and big as this on caucasian hair! it just looks loose and messy and unbrushed
Perming must've been much more efficient back then. All the perms i see nowadays fall out so quickly and don't look curly at all even right after it's done.
@JNJG1999.. I liked the old school ladies that used to cut my hair .. did better than the barbershop.. their small shop reeked of perm solution and hair spray everytime I went for a haircut .
This girl`s perm rocks and stylist did a fantastic job on her. Loved the finished style, but curious to know what her hair looked liked before she had it cut and permed? I appreciate that this video is rather back in time. But does anyone know?
Man... reminds me of 80s movies. I wonder if when we're 40 we'll go back and see "classic" movies with people with emo or scene hair in them. Maannn.. time paradox.
Hair perms of 1970s and 1980s was electric heated into clients hair for 20-60 minutes depending what kind of perm a client wants. Perms of 1970s and 1980s had also a fixation chemical named Aquanet that is blue in color that keeps those lovely curls in place in clients hair. It is possible even today to use portable handdryer with low, medium or high heat setting to electric heated in home perms with handdryer setting 7-10 minutes on low heat setting, 4-6 minutes on medium setting and 1-3 minutes on high setting when shape layering chemical is applied to clients hair. Kates permed hairstyle is a 1980s high fashion eye catching beautyful BOB with a strong ordinary perm of 6-9 month hairperm duration.
got one last month, the hairdresser used the same curlers and put something squishy in them too, but he didn't use any abrasive machinery on me 😅 just a bonnet/cap that emitted heat? or preserved it idk, and it turned out pretty well and firm, is that a modern technique? ju
@@sappyzap Yes it a more modern perhaps more safer method of perming hair today than it was back in 1970s or 1980s when a customer could be sitting underneath a high heater machine for several minutes before hair permanent was finished.
Owen Lawrence Stranger Things takes place in the early to mid 80s in small town America which didn’t catch up on trends as fast back then. This video is from the later part of the decade and from London which is on the cutting edge of trends.
@@indiag89 I know, I would watch Everybody Hates Chris and the show takes place from 1982 to 87 but you would never see anyone on the show with the huge bangs or teased sides, not even a perm either.
Back in a time when most women made an effort to look pretty, feminine, and would do their hair in an actual style! These days most women seem to spend large amounts of money and time to look like they haven't made an effort at all - with dull boring straight hair being ubiqutous, and things like weaing hair in a ponytail counting as a "style"! Worst of all is that pretty styles like on this vid are now dismissed out of hand by so many people in a kind of automatic Pavlovian conditioned response. How I miss the old days!
The current perms are too weak and not allowed to process fully they concentrate on conditioning and not CURL so hair is not dry and frizzy. Old style perms were very efficient and curled quite well but if even slightly over processed would leave hair a bit dry and woe betide you if your hair was a little over processed from coloring or bleaching it would be fried. I loved TONI®️ Epic Waves perms or RAVE or REVLON Instant Styling Perm they gave great curl and would last for several months.
Hey, what do you know? You are probably about 16 or something like that. I was 16 in 1980, I remember the 80's. Sorry, if you were not alive during the 80s, you can't comment. It is like if I talk about the 50's, I couldn't comment either because I wasn't born at that time. We can easily create a romantic idea of an era, that can be totally false (like in your case). This is the best time ever that I lived (most especially since 97 until 2004) at least for fashion and music!
It's called a perm because it permanently change the hair texture some perms can make straight hair wavy or curly and some perms make wavy and curly hair straight
Its original name was 'permanent waving system', hence perm for short. In the 1920s they were commonly called "marcel waves" after the man who made it popular.
Dreadfull, It looks like something the cat dragged in. I like how it looks like she slept in an alley on the back. The front looks like her hair is dirty.
