I personally feel like maybe the compressor is way too squishy here really let the pedal shine. Maybe it is just me who is used to playing without front end compression. The basic clean setting (without the LVL) sounded pretty mid and low frequence heavy. The guitar also has P90's so that could very well be adding to the chucky sound.
Yeah the P90s are definitely a factor. I considered bypassing the compressor but honestly, I would never play without one and neither would most others in my circles, so if I want to get any real world sense of how a pedal would sound in my rig I’ve gotta keep it in there. You’re definitely right though, that’s a factor as well.
