I restored a 14' wooden boat for a neighbor about 30 years ago. He used a 15 hp Evinrude. Got to take it for a good run after putting it back in the water. That thing boots along really nicely. I'm sure he still has it.
They are quick! I've got a 1975- 9.9 and it's a great motor! Paid $75 for it and put about $185 into coils, points and condensers, new carburetor kit and bam! Love it!
🌴 it’s a runner! I just bought a 1977 -15 hp Johnson 6-3-23 but it’s gonna need some work it sat for 8 months, the previous owner said it ran 🙄 but after awhile it would shut down, ? I’ll go through it and find out what’s wrong only paid $200 bucks for it , but after watching your vid I’m impressed, mine will be going on an 11’ ft three seat fiberglass fishing boat, I got a feeling it’s gonna move it pretty good ! 👍🏼😳
Embarrassed to ask, but recently got a 1975 Johnson 9.9 for my Jon boat and don't have any kind of operating manual. Main question is re: tilt mechanism. When I move the tilt handle to the up position, should I be able to raise the motor and have it stay in that position by friction alone? Since mine won't stay, how can I tighten/repair the mechanism? The other question is re: trim setting. I don't have the rod to hold motor up in desired trim, but will make one soon. Do I do anything to raise the trim other than lift motor, slip pin in place, and let motor down on pin? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thnx, Greg
I have thos motor and can't get it to start and the pull cord won't recoil back in. I'm not an engine guy so any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
I have the same motor what is that dam knob for when you turn it not the choke the little file next to it that you turn left or right been trying to figure it out should I turn it or not
Thanks for the video! I just bought a little boat with a Johnson Seahorse 15 outboard. I am trying to find out the year of the outboard. It looks exactly like the motor in your video, same logo, color. Been trying on different sites using Johnson's code/year system, but can figure it out. I do have the model number and serial number off the motor mount plate. The model number is J15RCIS. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I'm assuming this motor will need a fuel mix? Thanks again in advance!!
Hopefully you figure it out by now. But all you gotta do is mount a 15 Ho carb to it. If you’re really ambitious you can add shims to reed valves and a tuned exhaust from a later model 15 Hp. But just the carb will get you 90% there.
