Terry Butcher in the centre-forward position in the first minute of the match - HA! This is one of the best results England have ever got at a major tournament. Never seen the full match so can't comment on the performance but I'm guessing it was probably one of our best too. Shoulda made the semi-finals at this one. Unlikely we would have got much further than that, but who knows.... ah well. This was a great tournament.
@@dustysleeves4635 Mediocre performance, team team's performance was weak but we stumbled to the final and blew it and somehow people celebrate that....
@@dustysleeves4635 Was an average game if we're honest, against a weak Germany team. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, and any England win in a knockout match is something to be treasured, but it's hard to rate it as being "up there".
@@ronniep9272 We had a great squad in 1982, with a manager out of his depth, it Brian Clough was manager, we could have the tournament, we beat France 3-1 in the group stage, we never lost a game
@@derekduvall6482 yes never lost a game because of an excellent defence and goalkeeper. The team lacked invention, that's why they failed to score in the group stage. The 86 and 90 teams were better with skilful players like Hoddle, Waddle, Beardsley, Barnes and Gascoigne. The 1990 squad was the most technically gifted English team ever. It's an English habit to blame the managers, whether it's Eriksson, Capello, Southgate etc. The fact is that the other teams just have better players. Take for example the so called 2006 Golden Generation, could you honestly say they had a better squad than France, Italy and Brazil at the time?
@@profaneangel0842 just face it, the players aren't good enough. England had a great chance to win the Euros last year but Italy dominated 90% of the final. I suppose you will say that England actually drew the match.
England started too strongly. France, like Italy and Germany, started more slowly to go further in the tournament. England no longer had the resources in the 2 nd round...
@@profaneangel0842 The English played in strongs teams (Liverpool, Villa, Forest ...), used to play at high level. As a French fan, i remember Ipswitch trashing Saint-Etienne (uefa cup 81), very impressive (like Ajax). The French players were not used to play at this level. But we had Platini...the French foorball was rising slowly en route to Euro 84
