My friend just bought one in central Portugal, 130,000 miles it is in almost mint condition........ we also had problems with interior heater and radio not working, it has play in the ignition barrel, if we turn the key back a tiny amount the heater works, new ignition and wiring needed....... you bought a great car
I bought a 95 e-320 out of a barn about two years ago for three hundred. Six hundred dollars and two months later I licenced it and have been driving it since. It's got 228,000 on it and it's one of the best cars I have ever owned. Good buy on this one!
Definitely the ignition switch! Didn't look like anything electronic turned on when you hit it, just the engine. Guarantee that's why that new switch was in there! Cool car!
Merry Christmas Ike and John, this is another great addition to your fleet of unique autos, back in the late 80's when i worked for Volvo here in Canada in sales and leasing i took a number of these in on trade and some pretty minty condition and one stood out in particular, it was a white 300TD wagon with the tan interior with around 300kms, 186k miles, for analyst 10 yr old car, it was a gem, 100 % dealer serviced and ran and functioned 100% every single feature in the car worked right down to the power antenna and after we had cleaned it up for sale in the used car dept, I took it home for a long weekend trip and it sat on the highway happily at 65 mph hour for us and got over 30mpg Canadian with 4 of us in the car and burned a single tank of diesel, man what comfortable car and the A/C blew good and cold the only things we had to do with the car for safety was a leaky front caliper on the passenger side and new front pads fluid changes and front shocks , the clear coat was flaking in some spots so we had it redone and the car looked so crazy good and did not take long to sell at all , a guy from the country like it, bought it and drove it to over half a million kilometres before he sold it and bought another car from us, he loved it and said it never failed to start ever as long as the block heater was plugged in during the winter and our winters hit -25 to 30 regularly here in central Canada 👍
I had an 82 300 Turbo Coupe loved it with over 200,000 on it and was doing great till I loaned it to a business partner for a Wedding he put Unleaded gas in it. I sold it to my Mechanic who was A German Citizen to be rebuilt for his son. Speedometer going to 85 I broke a few cables. Loved it. We lived in Phoenix Az so the A/C Compressor was rebuilt almost every summer
I had a buddy whose parents owned the 300 turbodiesel wagon, and that thing was awesome, you could hear that turbo spinning up and the car would just gather momentum and push you in the back like a big American sedan with a big block
I too have had many a Mercedes Diesel (over 75), and they are great cars! I know you are experienced with these cars, having worked on them in your previous job. By the way, there is no "T" in Dexron....
Cool car. I seriously thought it was brown. Must have been sitting awhile. Hopefully, we will see more of this car. I think this year/style is the one I like the best. These cars were new when I was a kid. Brings back memories. Got to drive one once. Was about the same year and model. Real comfortable car to ride around in. Sadly, they are known for electrical gremlins, even today.
Awesome video. I’ve been putting a om617 from a 1984 Mercedes 300 into my 1992 Toyota 4x4. I bought the Mercedes from my forman with 174xxx kms on it (just over 100000 miles.) so the truck will outlive me lol. It’s been a fun project
hey Ike, this car needs to be buffed and waxed..it will be so classy..the thing i noticed was no electricals...got some gremlins in the wiring maybe ..no brake lights, back up lights, radio, windows etc..good luck on that bud..sendin some Bama love ya'lls way
i remember in germany in the mid 80s these were used as taxis. what a bargain! a little TLC, and this will be a sweet ride. i'd hang on to it for a while and make it my daily. at least for 30,000 miles. that will give you time to work out all the bugs, but still won't be seriously cutting into the useable miles this is capable of.
I had a 1984 300D and put 458K on it. The car was still running and driving good when I sold it. I love my diesel Benzs. I have 2006 that I bought from my parents dad bought it new for mom its only got 123k on it and looks new inside and out. You should fix that car up and let it be your daily driver. Merry Christmas!!
I love your videos and I love this car! I also dig your music you play in your videos. Here is one of my favorite songs: Rockit by Herbie Hancock (official release and 12-inch extended version).
i got myself a 95 e300 N/A OM606 and i love it besides it hating me in return of fixing it up and then it crapping out like a typical benz but they’re amazing and their ain’t nothing like them
I LIKE Turbo Diesels and this one is not rotten so that alone is pretty rare. engine sou ds so healthy, and its fun to drive as it is. repair all digitals to work, fix an AC and enjoy the car. it deserves to be driven. Old Mercedes and Volvos are always fun!
I love the sound of those old diesels. I've got a 300SD sitting in my driveway I'm gonna pull the motor from to hopefully put in my old Nissan D21. Have a 190D Turbo with somewhere north of 350k miles on it (ODO didn't work when I got it - does now) and it still runs great.
Check inside the end of the chassis legs as often as not when i used to repair these cars there was a key sstuck down just at the front end. We pressumed it was from the factory👍
I've always loved those cars. My old boss had one for a few years. It wasn't a turbo and was pretty slow but it was an amazing car. You can put a layer or 2 of fiberglass on the dash to cover the cracks then paint it black and nobody will give it a second thought.
Merry Christmas. Don't mess around with Mercedes, they will hook you an then you will never want anything else. Trust me I know; I must have had at least a dozen and still own a 300cd.
I recently picked up a 1980 300sd. 252k. Sat for 6 years. Previos owners running vegetable oil or whatever. Flushed out new fuel filter a couple hoses got it to start. Did a valve adjustment which really helped it come around. Along with just running clean fuel with some injector cleaner. .. and those electrical gremlins are annoying. Mine has wipers when it feels like. Only 2 windows. Flashers when they wanna work. Glow plugs when they wanna work. But heck the first time i got it started it was 27 degrees with no glow plugs. And before valve adjustments gummed up injectors. Probably still had rubbish in the fuel lines.
Runs dang nice! Be a good li'l parts-runner/daily-driver for ya. (or you could flip it) I'm looking forward to finding out what kinda shape that crunched Miata is in.
