Never understood why privates buy race cars. There is virtually no spare metal to correct usage. Everything is lifed, and for someone tyring to run on a out of pocket budget, they are not viable. The head needed all new parts, if it drops a valve, that's dozens of hours work trying to save an original numbered casting. Often better to put historically interesting components on the shelf for safe keeping and build another engine. It will be down on power compared to a unit developed to the enth deg. but in period those units were stripped and rebuilt every meeting. When the driver missed a gear and over revved or changed up and over loaded the thing, they detonated into retirement. 15:1 cr was the norm and every team had a spare freshly built and dynoed unit in the race truck. Those were the cars built for the guys on their way to bigger and better things. Good old days.🙂
