@@jamiefinlayson9441 It was 28, he won his last 28 in a row. I know both owners up in Stouffville. They named streets after the owners as well as after Cam Fella. Pat Crowe only got to drive home because no one knew how good the horse would be when he first raced as a two year old. Crowe was hopeless as a driver I always thought Ron Waples senior would be about 2 seconds or 10 lengths faster on Cam Fella than Crowe.
CAM FELLA WAS A BARGAIN AT 100000 WHEN PURCHASED FROM DOUG ARTHUR HE GO ON TO BE ONE OF HISTORY GREATEST HORSES AND STUD AFTER RACING AND A GREAT GRAND FATHER HAS MANY OF HIS COLTS WERE GREAT SIRES AND DAMS
@SteveSparx This was back when a sub-1:55 mile, even on a big track actually meant something. Yes, It's Fritz spit it, but 1:25 2/5 was a very fast three-quarters in 1983, something would change just a year or so later with improvements in equipment that have continually made the sport much faster over time.
We had an Egyptian Dancer mare bred to Cam Fella. Unfortunately she died before getting to prove herself. Rest in peace " Crystal Cam " Mrs Phil Milburn
I always used to say if Ron Waples senior drove him shave 2 seconds off every races he ran. Pat was to put it nicely a below average driver but did have a lot of experience driving.
They can never accuse Pat of stiffing horses at the tracks. Before the slot machines it was a 3 ring circus sideshow where drivers were suspended or fined for race fixing, notably the triactors with Dave Wall and Doug Brown at the head of the list. Sure is nice to see the streets up in Stouffville with the name Cam Fella the late Norm Faulkner and Norm Clements.
I saw everyone of Cam Fella's races at Greenwood and Mohawk. Niatross made an appearance on a cold Saturday afternoon in the winter at Greenwood. There was no place or show wagering on Niatross that day. I don't recall Falcon Seelster ever racing at Greenwood or Mohawk. Keep in mind Pat Crowe was one of the worst drivers at Greenwood at the time and never got any better at driving his entire career. I personally know the owners of Cam Fella. They even named streets after Cam Fella and the two owner in Stouffville, Ontario Canada. The Chinese are presently in the process of destroying Stouffville like they did to Vancouver Canada.
CAM FELLA WAS JUST PURE TALENT WITH PAT COWBOY CROW DRIVING WHAT A GREAT HORSE WHAT GREAT SIRE WHAT GREAT GRANDFATHER JUST ONE OF THE BEST I SAW PATCROWE FIRST RACE AT ORR LAKE RACE TRACK THATS WHERE HE GOT THE NICNAME COWBOY
The true greatness of Cam Fella was never seen due to the driver Pat Crowe. Waples at the time was about 10 lengths or 2 seconds faster than Crowe in any of their drives at Greenwood racetrack.
@funshipM174 That has more to do with MAJOR equipment improvements than the racing surface, though banking the turns also contributed some to the fast times we saw in later years.
I remember Mike Gagliardi spoiling the party by running 2nd. Look at those soft splits, it was all about the horses, racing and finish. Today, the racing at the BIG M is crap.
Cam Fella was a dominant horse, but It's Fritz was a horse that came from several notches down to put together a great multi-week streak. I was wearing several Fritz buttons watching this race, but had my money on Cam.
These two got me interested in Harness Racing. Started going to watch them on Friday nights. I had my red Cam Fella button as well. Blue was for It's Fritz.
Check out another great comeback in the 1971 Little Brown Jug 2nd heat Nansemond vs. Albatross -- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UZvJGwvhLtI.html
Cam fella was not only the greatest horse ,he was a great site when his first crop cam out they where world champions cam best ,cam luck cams card shark ,I could go on!!!
Cam Fella eating up this field sweet and also would like to add my suport as the race fan below Sean DeMarco Save harness racing in Ontario bring back Windsor raceway or a new track .
I remember when you walked into the track that day you got to chose either a "I love Cam" button or an "I love It's Fritz" Button. I hit the exacta in that race when Ideal Tanner got up for second, the exacta came back $42.00. Fritz just gave way to the relentless pressure of Cam Fella in the stretch.
omg.....I had the exacta with ideal tanner also....he looked great in the warm-up , and I figured one of the top 2 choices was going to get burned up in a speed duel.
I just bet Cam Fella to win, didn't bet any exactor. Never missed any of Cam Fella's races or qualifiers at Greenwood or Mohawk. I was 6 time world pinball champion and could always be found playing the pinball machines at the track or the Orchard Park tavern. I used to play anyone in the city one ball against 3 for beer or food at the bar. Before that I did play one ball against 5 strictly on the games with the rectangular shaped targets.
One of the rare times you actually saw Crowe stick the tip of the whip into him in deep stretch. I don't even remember a race other than this one where Crowe stuck the tip of the whip into him.
Waples was about ten lengths better than Crowe on any horse at the time so maybe he was the best ever with a driver. Somebeachsomehwere also had some jackass for a driver but he was an average driver at the time at Greenwood and Mohawk.
I came here to see Its Fritz battling Cam Fella time and time again becuz of Standardbred Canada videos on RU-vid. Save harness racing in Ontario. Save Hiawatha Horse Park n more.
I knew him well they all lived in Stouffville, Canada. Norm Faulkner still lives there and they named a street after him about a year later than when they named the streets after Cam Fella.
Love Cam Fella's comeback in this race. But here's another great comeback by Nansemond over Albatross in the 1971 Little Brown Jug 2nd Heat: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UZvJGwvhLtI.html
i was at the meadowlands this night , caught the exacta with ideal tanner......if carl allen had half a brain he shoud have sat the pocket till the stretch , then brushed by cam fella for the win , both were great pacers , sadly it's fritz's driver was almost as bad as Ken Iulo
I guess he had more than a half a brain when he won the Woodrow Wilson with Carl's Bird at 30-1 and also won the Yonker's Trot with Mo Bandy. CR Kay Suzie was by far his best horse. Carl was a tremendous horseman.
@@Fumthingelse You made a couple of good points , thanks...... never followed the Yonkers or Roosevelt Races much , but lived close to the Meadowlands back in the 80's - 90's .
Holy crap whoever was driving Cam Fella was just whipping on him so much so fast. He laid a beating on Cam Fella! If a driver did that today they would get serious days and serious Fines, Love Cam Fella he was a lazy horse yes you need t to drive him hard to get everything out of him. Had Cam Fella colts and mares. They were both lazy but could they would give any horse a serious fight down the stretch. Was just so struck by the beating Cam Fella got was wrong!
+Howard Mauran Pat Crowe was his driver....Anyone who knows anything about Cam Fella knows he only won by "what he had to" He didn't put himself out...great horse imo. Some of them kill themselves to get to the wire...he had an arrogance that was intolerable in a human but perfect as the undisputable king that he was. Cheers :)
hazeltyler89 Yeah I know those type horses there called cheaters they only go enough and could get beat by a fast charging horse that they can not see. I had some Jennas Beach boys, that would blow a field away in the pistol grips and I had Abercrombies and No Nukes they did just enough. I know Pat Crowe drove him imagine back then with Campbell, Bill O'Donald or Walter Case Jr how good he would have been. I guarantee Walter could have made him go and not whip him and never leave a mark on the horse. Case always could make speed with a horse.
They asked many top drivers a few years back and John Campbell said Walter Case Jr, Your Canadian roots are lying to you. When did Luc Oullette win his first Yonkers driving title? Walter was not there he was in Maine. John could not get everything out of a horse that Walter could. Walter a knife very funny unlike Luc Or Mike Lachance Walter had Hands. There will never be another. Walter Case quickest driver to win 1000 career wins and was the quickest to every one of them through for 11,000 wins. There has never been a John Campbell rule. There was the Walter Case jr rule at Yonkers. Back in the day the entires sheets would come out and Walter was listed 5 or more horses saw one time he was listed on 7 out of 8. I know Case and he is just not a driver he is a horsemen. He could tell trainers how to rig them shoe them or where there sore! The knife thing was over 10 years ago and if it was attempted murder he would not have gotten out in 4 years. It was accidental. Do not disrespect Walter Case jr until you can find a Canadian driver as great as Walter is problem in there are none!
+Howard Mauran The man was a amazing talent. WE KNOW...even in Canada (wow eh?) He was just as legendary for his party habits. I suppose if he'd climbed behind the wheel in his "altered" state and almost killed someone that would be an "accident" as well and should be excused in order for his adoring fans to see him back in a bike. Next, you're gonna tell me Rich Chansky forgot more than Joe O'Brien ever knew, lol. BILL O'DONALD?? Really? Might we concede that a Canadian Hall of Fame driver should command even the tiniest bit of respect in getting their name right? Oh, and another thing Howie...get back on your soap box and proclaim to the harness racing world again how much of a "cheater" Cam Fella was....I imagine many of the posters here would vehemently disagree with your assessment of this world champion.
Pat Crowe waa a no talent hack job! Right now what line is dominating the stallion ranks. It is not the Cam Fella line. It is the Abercrombie line that dominates. Art Offical, Artiscape, Art Major and so on. Then there is the mix with the out cross with the Somebeachsomewhere line that is taking over. Sorry Cam Fellas were cheating precious bunny rats. Camscardshark only raced because he had Bill Robinson training his as a 3 year old and the dope he was giving him. I saw Camscardshark at 2 he was stabled and trained at Saratoga and he was a Lame horse that was all about dope. Cam Fella lines only worked with Abercrombie mares. If you really know harness racing it truly is not about the stud its the Dam that matters. Studs get to much credit. The mother of Albert Albert she was a producing mare, She had Lislea.who was ok with the Cam Fella with Lislea but she had all great horses but her best ones came by Abercrombie line. The super mare Lismore. Cam fella was a good race horse not much competition he faced. Getting to the half in 58 and getting passed he was cheating every step and he got pounded. Pat Crowe he was no catch driver and was only famous in the states for driving Cam Fella and yes any and all the drivers I listed would have done much better. I know my stuff. I am still breeding and crossing mares buying yearlings breaking them and racing them what do you do? I know the values. Somebeachsomewhere is the best out there by far now. His son The Caption, Captiontreacrous was no where near as good a race horse as his father but will be looked at as a great stud because he will get mares he is half the price of his father and Somebeachsomewhere is booked even at $25,000 a live foal. Trotters best new value out there is Sebastian K. Donato Hanover, and Deweycheatemandhow, are way over priced. If you got the money the pacing stud you go to is Somebeachsomewhere, for a trotting stallion you go for Muscle Hill. A case can be made for both Somebeachsomewhere and Muscle Hill as the greatest Pacer ever and greatest trotter ever. Both those horses have changed racing!
@funshipM174 Neither horse had time(understandable) over Cam BUT~BOTH were, in my opinion as good as Cam(Breeding)~BUT 28 straight with Pat friggin Crowe?!?! ps Nihilator+,tons of Hanover and Revonah(Hanover backwards) offspring from Niatross and Bret Hanover. I have seen all three at Roosevelt Raceway MANY time. I am going to go ahead and sort of agree with you.2 Exquisite horses.
I knew the bonehead who sold Cam Fella for 50 grand as a two year old. Old Harvey Madgett. I told him he was crazy but Harvey needed any money he could get his hands on. Norm roped him. I remember when Niatross raced at Greenwood a cold Saturday afternoon. It was my idea to name some of the streets in Stouffville after Cam Fella.
I'm still waiting for "One Alpha One" and "Kadena" to race thanks to Covid-19. My thinking is Mission Brief will go down in history as the best broodmare in standardbred history.
Yes I could not believe the amount of whipping of Cam Fella going on down the stretch. They are looking to go to whipless racing in many parts and this definitely is part of the reason. I hope the driver was fined and suspended for excessive whipping. Btw I love harness racing but there are things that definitely I don't turn a blind eye to and this here was wrong. As for whipless racing it would be interesting to see it but really i think they can try going to a softer material / style of a whip and see if that would work.
i still think The Beach may be the best of all time but Cam was my hero....different era of course but he was the horse that got me hooked on the sport....
The Beach is the best pacer and Muscle Hill the greatest trotter ever but Cam Fell was one hell of a horse with a huge heart which he passed on to his babies, he was a great sire and definitely left his mark on harness racing.
@@johnking5934 I'm still waiting for "One Alpha One" and "Kadena" to race thanks to Covid-19. Kadena being the better bred of the two with the better sire. Both out of the dam or broodmare Mission Brief who was much, much better bred than Manchego. I saw every race Cam Fella ran at Greenwood and Mohawk. My brother lives in Stouffville at the west end of the city. I live in Markham but moved there in 1982 when it was 100 percent white.
Cam Fella is my harness racing hero but how the fuck do you lose a race like that with a 4-5 length lead with a 16th of a mile to go...Its Fritz was a joke
