Cinema Classics show with host Nick Solerno. In this episode the 1943 film Jane Eyre is shown. After the film is shown Nick Solerno interviews actor Dustin Hoffman and Sydney Pollack regarding the 1982 film Tootsie. This film's production took years longer than originally planned and the cost was also much higher than the original budget.
Dustin Hoffman is an incredibly talented actor and the film Tootsie showcases his talent. In this film Dustin Hoffman plays the role of Michael Dorsey who decides to dress and act as a woman named Dorothy Michaels in order to get the female lead role in a hospital soap opera show. Playing the roles of three separate characters in a singe film is quite a feat for any actor. Sydney Pollack is also interviewed and he gives his own opinion regarding actor Dustin Hoffman and the film in general. Sydney Pollack was not just the director of this film but he was also played the character George Fields in the film. The late actresses Marylin Monroe and Natalie Wood come up during the interview.
The late Nick Salerno was a Phoenix Arizona film critic. The KAET Cinema Classics show focused on classic films.
Broadcasted in February 1983 by KAET Channel 8 in Phoenix, Arizona. This broadcast was recorded on a V-120 V-Cord2 format video cassette with a 1976 Sanyo 8200 VCR.

It's no wonder Dustin pushed for Sydney to play the agent in Tootsie. The two of them become a comedy/straight man duo from the Russian Tea Room scene onward. I always thought Tootsie was loosely based no Dustin's reputation in Hollywood as being difficult to work with. Both of them at the top of their game and most talented making a film like this which must have been challenging to set up everything.

Thank you for your comment. Dustin Hoffman is a flexible actor regarding the roles that he played throughout his career. The Tootsie film was broadcast on television very often durin the 90s where I live in the Bay area of California where I happen to live. Some of the networks that broadcast this film included KICU-TV Action 36 and KBHK-TV 44. I fist watched this film during my Middle School years and I found the character Dorothy Michaels to be very lovable, respectful and an advocate for good values. I might be wrong but I suspect that Dustin Hoffman found inspiration from the sitcom actresses of the Golden Girls and Maude shows.

Thanks. The first time that I watched the film Tootsie was back in the early 1990s. Back then it was shown very often on television. It is not one of my personal favorite films since I happen to be a huge sci-fi, horror and erotic romance film fan. It is a special film especially considering the year that it was released. The concept of crossdressing was very controversial back in 1982 and it still is to this day. It has become more accepted over the decades. As of recently Anheuser Busch products have been boycotted due to a certain sponsorship with someone who happens to crossdress. To each their own.
