This is my original Norelco rechargeable razor purchased new on or about 1984. It's time to change it's batteries again. This will make the 3rd. replacement set since the originals. Years back, I had the repair shop that specialized in these razors replace the original batteries, and as an added bonus, they had broke the head adjuster, & never disclosed that fact. No charge for that, & did not discover the defect until the batteries needed changing again, years later. This is one of four times I depended on pros to do work needed, and they ruin the device, be it your record player, car, electronics (under warranty from "authorized repair shops"), heating systems, or your Norelco razor. No wonder folks did not trust repair shops. That includes me.

Hi. Found out more on our razor. Original battery was Ni-Cad, 1.2V, size:Sub C, and 1,300mAh. Looking at the charging circuit, I decided on 2,000mAh batteries. Installed and working fine. Back in 1983, they did not have 2,000mAh batteries. Now they cost about $2.00. Mine is working great now! Loved your video. Thanks!

"that's when the fire starts!" awesome! I loved every bit of it - I was 2 year sold in 1983 but I appreciate the 'old way'! You were awesome - even showing the possible points of failure! This is why the internet is our greatest invention yet!

Have had this same model razor for years. I purchased a replacement on Ebay that was supposed to be the same model but was not the E and didn't have the same lift heads. Ended up taking the motor out and installing it as that was what finally quit (bearings) on the original. I have replaced the battery 3 or more times over the years. I usually just bend the existing tabs up on the new battery as I left the old partial tab on the board years ago to solder to. I then solder the tab from the board to the bent up tab on the battery. Works swell. I noticed this time that the only battery in this configuration available was 1700ma and Nickel Cad. For some reason they are eliminating the others. They were either NLA or back ordered from both Mouser and Digi-Key. So I got the 1700ma from Digi-Key. It's a SC size, 1.2V and 1700ma.

Very nice video. Mine is a similar age to yours, (same model), and incredibly is still running on the original batteries.

I just found mine which I bought new in the 80's. It slightly different than the on picturered as mine is the 1328/E model with the wording "Electronic, Quick Charge/Universal Voltage" printed above the controls. Mine isn't working even with the plug being plugged in. There is no light. The question I have is should it still work if its plugged in even with dead batteries or it needs good batteries to work even if its plugged in? Should the LEDs still light up if the batteries are completely dead. Or its because the internal charger is not working and thats why the LEDs are not lit. I don't want to waste $ getting new batteries if it not just the batteries. I've never changed the batteries before or even tried to open it but I will if its just needs new batteries. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Mine certainly works with very flat batteries when plugged in. The electronics do not look sophisticated enough to check for a missing battery, and then shut down if it were missing, so I would be confident your problem is either: dud charger (check with a voltmeter set to around 6VAC) or, bad connector (the female end can spread so as not to make good contact with the male - jiggle around a little and see if you can make a connection), or broken power connection on the PCB, (open up to check) or blown rectifier (an easy fix. From memory it uses a half wave rectifier which is a single 5 cent diode), or dud motor (this is the least likely, but a dead short motor could produce some or more of the faults above, and give the same symptoms) Check in the order of possible faults above. From your fault description the batteries are not the primary issue, but they well may be U/S by now. But it should at least spin the motor just on charge without batteries.

Just repaired / replaced batteries in 6 razors, including a HP1328/E, similar to yours shown here, but with 2 smaller batteries. In my opinion, I'd say your height adjustment actuator most likely broke from normal use. It's the result of the stress / flex of the plastic over time. The one I just worked on was actually my 93 year old father's; and had never been opened before, but found the piece broken when I took it apart. I know in years past another Norelco model was also notorious for the plastic actuator breaking just from continued use / flexing over the years.

I have a Norelco HP 1328/E (circa 1986) and I'm having difficulty finding the batteries. Does anyone have an idea where I can get two, or at least what the exact specs are? Thanks.

Ebay - and enter the search term sub-c, or sub c. Choose one with solderable tabs and be aware of the OP's issue with tabs wider than the originals. Choose Ni-Cad - even though its old skool technology, because the charger will be optimised for that type, and (in my opinion) anything from 1300mAH upwards. Getting a super capacity battery probably won't do much for you, as its useful lifetime won't be much different. It's luck of the draw with Chinese batteries. You can't tell the quality or actual capacity from the ads, but they're cheap enough to not draw tears if they fail earlier than expected.

I just dug up my Norelco 1328e that I bought in the 80s. Naturally, the batteries won't charge. However, before I go through the necessary crapola to acquire new rechargeable batteries, I would like to test the motor. Can anyone tell me what the voltage and current rating the original/replacement batteries have?
@pafmelb1927
@pafmelb1927 3 года назад
Disconnect one of the wires to the motor and apply 3 volts DC to the motor. Each battery (when good) supplies nominal 1.2 volts, so the motor will likely be a 2.5 to 3 volt motor. Try it with pretty fat batteries (A or C size) AA or AAA won't likely be able to supply the current to properly test the motor.

Loved the video I am doing the same to mine now. Do you know what the original mAh ratting was for the original batteries? Thanks! jack

I haven't a clue, but I'm sure the replacements at least meet or exceed the originals.
