I met Barry Sheene when I was around 10 of 11 years old , I'm now 54 , still one of the greatest moments of my life . Amazing man who lived life to the full for himself and his fans .
As a new fan to the vintage road race years, Barry was and absolute gem to the sport and he was just him. Any american loves that, he was a "cowboy" of the GP.
@seeker156 you are perhaps not so new to this period now but would recommend the 1979 British GP at Silverstone if you have not already seen it. A classic battle between Roberts and Sheene which really got my interest as a kid.
Barrys right factory bikes are more than twice as good...the main thing is factory bikes..are safe an faster at higher speeds power suspension...brake etc...if u never raced or got in the pits of any kind of bike races...it the same..bikes are 20 times better now...
I knew Barry & his family,. We all miss his cockney accent. He made a very unique contribution, to the world of motorcycle racing, as rider & commentator , in the UK & later Australia. God bless him 🙏
I used to go to Oulton Park to watch the Trans-Atlantic Trophy, great pure racing, no electronics, just race bikes, i always stood at Deer Leap out of Lodge Corner, no traction control, those guys would come out of there with the front wheel up in the air and the engine screaming, i was only a kid in total awe of these guys, absolute LEGEND'S
Only a minor gripe but I am sure this is the 1984 transatlantic meeting. I got Roberts, Baldwin and Croz's autographs in the pit lane area and a mate who was a marshall rescued Freddie out of the gravel at Redgate. Sheene was still recovering from his injuries at Siverstone in '82 during the 1983 season. Lucky enough to sit next to him and Stehanie in pit lane at the 1984 meeting. Unfortunately the season he retired from racing.
I was a member of Wisbech Motorcycle Club at the same time as Barry Sheene. We had a Special Evening when he won his first major race. Never forget your roots.
Barry was the poster boy, jet set lifestyle, smelling of Brut & beautiful GF. But for us long haired bikers Rocket Ron & Joey Dunlop were our heroes. Though I guess Barry sold more bikes than the other 2 combined.
Pecker head. Ive hung out with the KING he is not who he is because he is some candy ass. Eye contact with that man will make you question yourself.. he is a bad little m.f.....
@@flybywir1 he was great but so was barry ,yamaha in 78 79 80 81 82 83 had faster bikes until honda got in on it,and later suzuki did come back but once in every ten years
TheMickeyfinn4444 Yes I met Mark Salle at Oulton in 83. I was 21 and had my young 10 year old future brother in law with me.....It was his first race meeting and Mark made quite an impression when he let him sit on his bike for a photo (I still have that photo of Mark with his arm around Daniel)... my brother in law cried when a few weeks later I had to tell him that Mark had been killed at Brands Hatch.:-(.. We only met him once but he was a really nice guy..
Thank you. That is a nice story, I would love to see the photo ! I can be reached at mickeyfinn4444@gmail.com or via Facebook or Twitter (Sharon Salle !!)
