Great video. Very helpful. I have an all original 82 big red. First year of the big red. Orig kehin made in Japan carb on it too. Been having issues with it not wanting to idle. First issue in the 14 years I’ve owned it and I use it yearly. I pulled the bowl and it had plenty of stuff in it but still looked better than the one you showed. I didn’t remove the carb so it was a bit tricky to do this with the carb in. I cleaned the bowl and sprayed what I could with my barrymans chemtool carb cleaner and put it back together. Still not wanting to idle but just off idle she runs out strong as ever. It also has been backfiring on deaccelerstion. If I let it rip and cut throttle she pops a few times. Never did before. The plug I put in about 5yrs ago. Getting a new one. I called Honda and they actually still have oem gaskets and jets for this trike! Oh I also adjusted the idle screw on the side of the carb and it will idle high if I do that but I can hear fluctuations in the idle speed and it almost seems like it will hang rpm’s a bit if I do that. What would you recommend? Take it all apart? The jet you called the pilot jet is called the slow jet in the service manual. Do you think that is the issue? Thank you

100% it's the pilot jet, I would highly recommend kitting the carb to help it deal with ethanol fuel as well. Here's the link: www.allballsracing.com/26-1284.html Thanks for watching, good luck!

@@JWSRepairServiceLLC I used to run 87oct with up to 10% ethanol but last year I switched to strictly using 91oct non ethanol. What will that carb kit do for my carb as far as dealing with ethanol? It does look like a good kit I may get that!!

@@JWSRepairServiceLLC So great news. Thought I’d let you know I did get that kit you linked me and also you were right about that slow jet. It was so plugged I couldn’t get even a tiny carb stick through it. I couldn’t see daylight at all. So I replaced pretty much everything and used most of that kit as far as gaskets ect. When I first bolted it all back up and turned the gas on the breathers were leaking gas but I know I reassembled it all correctly so I fired it up and revved it up a few times and it stopped leaking!!?? Was the float just not seated properly? It now fires up with no throttle and purrs nice and also no pops on de-acceleration. Also has more power down low for sure it can pull the front tire up if you stab the gas! Why do you think the breathers were leaking when I first turned the gas on? Thank you very much. I just uploaded a video of my big red. I start it up about halfway into the short video. Check it out it’s the newest video on my page. Thanks again!!!

@@pryme2013 Surprisingly it's not that uncommon for a float valve to not seat the first time the fuel is turned on and may require a "tap" on the bowl with the handle of a screwdriver. Why? Unclear, sometimes they just do. Glad it worked for you! I'll check out your vid!

Thank you for taking the time to make and post such a detailed video for this carb. Tonight my 84 ATC 200m ran for the first time in 20 years. It was given to me by my grandfather (also 20years ago) who bought in 86 from the local dealer and was the 2nd owner. If my math serves me right, that makes me the 3rd owner LOL. I hope to be able have it all put it back together for his 84th birthday which is quickly approaching. The only thing left now is the brakes and a good cleaning. Thanks again.

Awesome video! I just had the original one rebuilt, but now I have a high idle and very rich smokey exhaust. Also when you give a good blip on the throttle, the rpms stay high for a few seconds then drops down to the higher than normal idle. Never had done that before. No matter what I do with factory settings which are. The pilot screw spec in manual is to lightly seat then back out 1-7/8 turns. Jet needle in the middle 3rd groove. To resolve I tried to move it 2nd groove from the top, no change. Then highest groove and doesn't start at all. Moved back to middle, starts back to high idle/running rich. Helps if I had the rights tools as well. Trying to get to the pilot screw is a pain. I didn't know there were 90 degree 16 inch screw drivers till I seen your video. So I got one of those to help tackle this. My question is, why would this be happening? Going to try some ideas this afternoon. First is to turn on the choke to see if idle goes down, if so then it's more pilot screw adjusting. Second is to inspect the slide on the throttle cable. I've see others report the screw was stick on a burr on the slide and not letting it drop. Lastly to spray break/carb cleaner around the intake to see if there is a intake leak. Any other ideas are welcome if you have any. Thanks in advance!

I would check the pilot jet (low speed) really close, it could be idling off the slide, meaning that the idle screw is turned in too far to make it run at all. The slide should drop all the way down and bottom to allow the pilot jet to take over. That being said, the 200 cc series of engines for Honda were the first ones that I ever saw that would actually wear out a carburetor. The clearance of the body to the slide would increase causing a drop in atomization of the fuel, therefore causing the engine to run rich (sometimes VERY rich), I have replaced dozens of these carbs for that reason.

@@JWSRepairServiceLLC Thanks for the info. I'm just about to start over again and rebuild with original parts cleaned up the best you can get it. Try that and test. Otherwise a replacement carb would be last option. I also made a video of what's happening. Check it out here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4oTFUzRZChk.html&ab_channel=Dirte883

JWS when I start my 200 it idles very very high, I tried adjusting the idle but it goes back to idling very high. Do you have ant suggestions? Great vid!
@JWSRepairServiceLLC
@JWSRepairServiceLLC 2 года назад
Yes, I have a couple of suggestions. First make SURE the throttle slide is not in backwards, there is a slit on one side and a ramp on the other, The slit lines up with a pin in the side of the carb, the ramp goes towards the throttle adjustment screw. Note: the slide cap should be easy to install, if you are having to force it down because the spring is fighting you, It's not in right. The other thing to check is to make sure that the throttle cable is not too tight or bound up somewhere. I see lots of machines with zip ties on throttle cables, that's a no--no. If there is one near the carb where the cable doesn't move, that's one thing, but I have seen them zip tied to the handle bars. Guess what happens when you turn the bars?

I have 2 gas lines on left side of carb which one goes to the tank n wer does the other one go
@JWSRepairServiceLLC
@JWSRepairServiceLLC 11 месяцев назад
I'm assuming your machine is the 125 version. The 2 fuel lines both go to the tank, 1 is for On and the other one is reserve. If the tank has been replaced with an aftermarket plastic tank, you will only need one line as the petcock will be located on the tank itself, rather than the carburetor where it is now. If you do have a plastic tank with only one hose you will need to cap one side at the carburetor itself. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and good luck!

So for using the drain screw to drain the carb, is that for simply removing fuel so it doesnt ait for long periods of time? Or do we need to do that every time we stop riding for the night?
@JWSRepairServiceLLC
@JWSRepairServiceLLC 11 месяцев назад
It is for draining when you will not be running it for sometime. With the "quality" of today's fuel, we suggest draining if you will not be running it for 3 or more weeks. thanks for watching!

What did you soak it in brake cleaner?
@JWSRepairServiceLLC
@JWSRepairServiceLLC 3 года назад
I'm assuming you meant to ask "why did I soak it brake cleaner", I actually soaked the entire carb in a carb cleaning dip, I used brake cleaner to verify that jets and all passages were open.

What it the screwdriver you are using to adjust the idle jet? If you have a moment
@JWSRepairServiceLLC
@JWSRepairServiceLLC 2 года назад
I use a 90% gear drive mixture tool. For home use? Find a really short thin flat blade screwdriver. The little fat, short ones will not work, it must be short, thin handled, and with a thin blade. Good luck, Thanks for the view!
