@@christopherjackson7177was. wondering why he kept saying Paula. Eye knew about Pam. Thought he was bein a bigot. sad that that’s even a thought but they were blatantly cumn like that bak then. 🤦🏿♂️
Side note.. Pat Summit was the USA Olympic Women's basketball coach in '84 and she and Cheryl Miller didn't get along, Summit thought Miller was too flashy and Miller said it was personal because USC Women's Basketball team beat Tennessee in the 84 Finals coached by Summit.
I watched her play in high school at Riverside Poly her and the Overton girls the father Overton I think coached that team? She scored 105 against Norte Vista and also dunked in several high school games.
Here from Knuckleheads. I feel like I watched every possession and never saw the cartwheel. Based on Cheryl Miller's recollection, it shouldve occured in the first half (when USC's basket was in front of the Tennessee bench) but i dont see it. Im sure if the cameras never caught it, the announcing team would mention it but they never do. If anyone saw it and I just missed it because I sneezed, timestamp it for the gang.
@@kevlar1482 It's 40 years old you fucking idiot. The game evolves. JFC, you kids are so slow. Our education system is failing all of you. No common sense.
Facts! She went on to become one of the Goats of the WNBA.First she played in Europe and won a few championships. Then came back to play here in the WNBA and the rest is history.
Looking at this just makes me wonder how different things would have been in the history of women's college basketball if forgotten Lusia Harris played for Tennessee or any D1 school instead of Delta St? I can only imagine. It wasn't enough that she was drafted by the Utah Jazz because she never played a game with them.
You know, these early NCAA-sanctioned Women's Basketball National Title games are so strange, I can point out stuff about it that would blow anybody's mind. Like, for instance: -The USC frontcourt of Miller, McGee, and Robinson remain the greatest in the history of the women's collegiate game, without a doubt in my mind. -Only two referees in this game...... .and, of course, one of them is female. Who obviously doesn't have the physical attractiveness of modern-day female basketball refs, in part B/C she is older. Obviously the majority of female refs used today both in college and the WNBA (and the NBA as well) tend to be younger. -The fact that Pat Summit still used her maiden name, even in a formal sense at this point, is kinda......odd. I'm used to her going by Pat Summit, not Pat Head Summit or Pat Summit Head or whatthefuckever...... -At around 12:30 Anybody notice the 2-3 Zone SC was using in that possession? Holy shit...... -And finally, the rather ironic fact that the Women of Troy won their second straight national title on their Arch-Rival's home court. And speaking of UCLA, is that Ann Meyers as the analyst there? Or, is that Nancy Lieberman? I obviously know that the late, great Frank Gilbler is doing Play-By-Play B/C he was the PBP announcer in the previous year's NC game when SC beat Kim Mulkey and Louisiana Tech.
I admire passionate people who pay attention and keep memories piled up for years! It was Ann Meyers calling the game with that man (I have no idea who he is). As I didn't start discovering my b'ball watching/playing love until the late 80s-90s, I didn't know some of the information you posted here. Thanks for that! I loved watching track and field in the early to mid 80s a whole lot more.
Summitt was an All-American at Tennessee-Martin and a 1976 Olympian as "Patricia Head," and was still known by that name (or Pat) in her early years as a coach. So Pat Head was her professional name for many years before she married R.B. Summitt in 1980. She was then generally known as "Pat Head Summitt" for more than a decade before most media outlets stopped using her maiden name. Anyone who remembers her from the 1980s knew her as "Pat Head Summitt" and it doesn't sound odd to them. She was never just "Pat Summitt" in those days.
I find it crazy ppl will say Miller she is the goat . Womens basketball has evolved soooooooo much since she was playing women are so much more skilled now . Just look at her competition its horrible ppl always wanna be stuck in the past and become blind to how much the game has grown
If that's the case then there will never be a GOAT with your logic because the game is ever evolving. Now you're started to see more of a positionless approach. Regardless, Cheryl is the best to ever do it in the women's game and most fans do agree.
