Not only the first one they ever made, but IMO, but the best one! My grandfather bought the one I have new back in April of 1984. I spent my childhood riding it around. When I bought my own home, 3 years ago, my dad gave it to me. She hadn't been ran in about 15 years. A carb, tires and a battery later, she was cruising the yard and fields as she was intended to do so! I drive it almost daily in the spring, summer and fall. She does all of my hauling of limbs, sticks, stone, mulch, you name it, she does it. Still runs absolutely amazing and when called up, she'll wind out all 5 gears like no one else! Long live the 1984 TRX200!!
I still have my 84 trx 200 original, I use it for my landscape business.i keep mine in mint condition, I'm the only one that rides it.i also ride mine around town to the grocery store ,get beer, parts and it always goes camping with me.i love it I'm weird.mines in almost as good of shape as yours.i also have a mint old Honda generator I strap on the back.
Stumbled on this video and brings back so many memories! TRX200 was the first large purchase I made with my own money from working. I was 14. Paid $1750 for it! Added a Hondaline speedo to it and put if I remember right over 7000 miles on it in a year. Rode the wheels off that and loved every second! I had it for around 3-4 years before I sold it and wish I never had. The brochure brings back memories too because I remember having that and studying every word in it! Great video!
WOW! that's great. I remember seeing the TRX200 running around back in the mid 80's, but mostly 3 wheelers. I didn't know that Honda made a 1988 250es Big Red, thought that 87' was the last year which was rare. One boy I knew had an 86 Big red , and the biggest difference i seen was that the neutral and Reverse light was reversed on the panel and the stickers had a different graphic and a gray seat cover. I've seen more 1985 Big Red's more than any other year. I've Had 3 different 85' 250es Big Reds in the past, man what a machine they were!
So 1987 was the last year for the Big Red in the US. Honda continued to sell it in Europe, Australia and NZ (possibly other countries too). My 88 came from England though. You are right though, 85 is the most common year and the production numbers go down every year after that. They are fantastic machines!
When I was a kid my buddy’s dad had one of these 200cc Honda quads. He wouldn’t let us ride it, so it just sat all year until the fall hunting season and he only used it to drag deer out of the woods.
Awesome, I have one in next level down, but still very nice & original no cracks. Great to see the IH, have many , 1466,230,130, first year lowboy all fast hitch ,many cub cadets !
Thanks Pat!! The audio got goofed up there at the end... actually this video was fighting me the whole day! I uploaded it twice and it had an audio dead spot that I was chasing... I thought I had fixed it and let it fly at 830... I went to show my wife the spot where my daughter was racing me and my son... and realized SHOOT! But that part was only a fraction of what was goofed up initially... Anyways, thank you as always for watching!!
I have a 2016 trx420 I bought new I forget how fantastic these Hondas are but watching your videos inspires me to make a little time to start enjoying again love your videos reminds me of my high school years and the toys we obsessed over
Yeah! It's funny because he is a complete ham and loves attention... but when it comes to the videos, he doesn't hang around. He's a very good worker though; as long as I can keep him busy!!
A couple years ago me and my dad pull one of these and a 86 Kwai bayou out of the woods and payed our neighbour $200 for both and the trx200 only took a carb clean and cleaned tank and it ran perfect. They are awesome little machines. I still ride it too this day.
My son just picked one of these up from my old boy neighbour who bought it new in 1984 from a local dealer and I would say is in a little better shape then this one. Never been left outside and still has original front tires. Had been sitting for a number of years but a carb clean and new battery and she runs like a dream
I have the 87 250 model. Have had it since I was 11 years old. My dad bought it new. I wish the plastics were as nice as yours but they are cracked pretty good.
Dad bought one new. Had it until around 99 or 00. Sold it as he didn't want us kids to ruin it as it was in mint condition. For the last 10 years or so I have been on the hunt for one. Found many 85 and 86 250. But I always wanted a 84 200. Last summer found one town over from me. Sadly my fun funds were low as I had just bought a 200 sport Trax, 2 moto4 225, moto4 250 and a warrior all the month before. Brother in law ended up going and picking it up for my nephew. Told him if he ever sells it that it has to go to me. She's nice like the ones in this video.
i also love the shit out of the front end. i think the system they had for the suspension arms was probably one of the most unique ones i've seen. i's like to also think it makes the front axle more durable.
Great looking machine. I picked up an ‘84 TRX200 from a farmer in Illinois. Love it but mine is super loud due to an aftermarket muffler which I plan to swap out at some point.
Great Video Brother! I have the Dico trailer ( and a Steel Honda trailer - which was actually also made by Dico at there facility in St. Catherine's , Ontario under license from Honda! ) and Love the fiberglass trailer and don't think I would ever sell it But if I do I will contact You first. Keep the Great Videos coming 😊
Did you know the headlight detaches so you can use it as a spotlight? Had one of these when I was a kid. Ran the crap out of it and it never broke down.
I own a one owner 1984 TRX200 like new. Fixing to finally change my original tires, got a few holes in one rear tire. My 4 wheeler is running like new.
Hahaha! Thanks man! Unfortunately there is no reference to the Quad-Father in the video... That whole idea came after the fact... BUT... maybe he'll become a recurring character in the future?!?
Your dad was Jerry Reed and the guy on the brochure.... dang.... you can't tell the tricycle story without a few dopey poorly designed stone aged quads.... after all, the trx 200 and 250 were a big red with a second front wheel... it is a good feeling when you just bump the starter and they run like a sewing machine.. that means your a natural on carb repair.... ok so your rack still has good bushings, I'm not special hahahahahahaha I wish I had a fraction of the ambition you have to produce good videos.. oh and QUAD-FATHER, EPIC TITLE!!!!!!
Hahaha love it! After I put the carb on it was running rough, but a fresh spark plug fixed that. It had a DR8EA in it and I always put a D8EA in my first gen Big Red's / 200cc motors like that... so once that was swapped she purred nicely. Did you know those rack bushings are still available?! I ordered everything, including the rubbers for my 85 200ES. Can't wait to see how nice she looks when it's all back together! You put out great videos and I love each one... even when you pop out of low range...
@@ThisOldTrike hahahah poor quality compared to yours we've all popped out a time or two hahahah I think I have dr8esl in all my big reds d8ea in the 200s I have to look again, maybe I'm wrong with dr8esl
Well shoot, the schematics are showing a bunch of options, but none are D8EA... DR8ES-L, DR7ES, DR8ES... and some non-NGK plugs... So... Looks like I'll be swapping that out hasta pronto!
Love your videos, you have an amazing collection man. I would love to get an ATC70 if you ever decide to sell one. I’ve been looking for one for a while now but haven’t come across one in good shape.
I had a 1977 FL250 a few years back. They're neat machines but rough on my 41 year old body... I definitely want to add a FL350 or FL400 at some point though! Can't have a collection without one of those!!
The 250's were definitely an upgrade from the 200. Pretty darn bullet-proof! I definitely see the value in a bid displacement 4x4!! One of these days when I grow up I may get one.
Hello sir! What is a good way for me to get ahold of you? My facebook is facebook.com/preston.frasier.3 and my Instagram is instagram.com/this_old_trike/ if you want to contact me on either of those?
My Suzuki quad runner 250 has similar front bumper you put on the trx200s I currently have quad trx300ex a Yamaha moto4 350 a Polaris trailboss 325 Yamaha 570 twin snowmobile engine my son's 50cc atv 2 buggies and a utv tow truck a off-road go kart
That bumper is similar to the one that came stock on the '88 honda foreman 350d currently under my ownership. I would love to find any brochures for it and possibly track down a hondaline speedo/ odo kit. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Do these have the same rear end as the 84 200es Big Red? Wondering if the axles are the same? Looking for an axle with no luck, id like to broaden my search options if these are identical.
Thanks for the info! I just got a barn/garage find 84 Big Red 200es and the splines on the axle have rusted away and have a ton of slop in the housing, the rubber o ring was busted and let water in long ago.
Hey man!! I JUST acquired one of these! I too live in "upstate" NY.. I'm in a tiny place you never heard of.. lol but my Honda is ROUGH!! Love to restore it, but I'm NO mechanic. Any chance you might be interested in working on this? Or if it's not fixable use it for parts?? I simply want to go ride!!
i got a trx200 from an old guy i knew pretty well. he ended up dying and never touched his 4 wheeler. so it'd sat for 3 years, and he never changed the oil as long as he had it. and he got it from someone else who took care of it. so i went down and i asked the old guys sister if i could have it. i got it home, and the second i got it off the trailer, it started almost right up. and one of the front tires went to shit. so it sat all winter with the same gas in it. then i got a tire for it and it still ran on the same gas that was in it.
Enjoyed the video a lady has one in decent shape I'm from Canada she wants $1800.00 might try talking her down some not sure what this original first of it's kind is worth I love the older bikes the new automatics I don't trust the transmissions an the rebuicon is like $18000.00 lots of cash can't believe how much they have gone up in price anyway I appreciate you getting back to me names Rod hopefully she returns my message today it's our May long weekend first long weekend of the start to summer!
I lucked out on those. My buddy was selling me a headlight guard and had those too... so we made a deal on both. I figured they'd fit one of my first gen Big Reds but nope!! So TRX200 it is!
1995 Honda foreman 400 owner my uncle had a big red it was junk though he sent it to someone to get it fixed and they just took the part off of it and put it on there's and told him it was junk and he unfortunately had to git rid of it
The 250ES and SX motors will interchange and are the bore/stroke/compression/horsepower.... but, the ES motor is geared lower than the SX. The ES has 25" tires compared to the 22" tires on the SX, so that offsets some of the gearing difference, but the SX is still a lighter, faster, and slightly smaller machine.
That is correct. The SX is First Gear: 3.615 - Second Gear: 2.000 - Third Gear: 1.400 - Fourth Gear: 1.069 - Fifth Gear: 0.848 The ES is First Gear: 4.083 - Second Gear: 2.389 - Third Gear: 1.609 - Fourth Gear: 1.179 - Fifth Gear: 0.906
I enjoyed the video. I just picked up a 96 TRX 200 for my grandson. Looking to gather some info on maintenance. Sorry not to subscribe. Your Trump sticker prevented that.
