My father wanted to buy a new diesel Eldorado back in 1980 due to rising gas prices and his daily commute, but they were back ordered and marked up as a premium $22,000. I reminded my dad that the oldsmobile Toronado was the same car and also offered a diesel. He went to Allen oldsmobile in southern California and bought a beautiful, fully loaded, two tone gold diesel Toronado for $19,000. He had great luck with it, unlike so many others.

Watching this video is a walk back in time to 1984. Gorgeous car that was obviously cherished. You are right that most of these cars had the larger chrome side mirrors, not the sport mirrors. You sure have a knack for finding beautiful survivor cars Anthony.

I’ve always loved Oldsmobile’s more than any other GM brand. My father had a 1970 Delta 88 4 dr that was all get out and as a kid I think I wanted every year Corvette, Toronado, Riviera and Elderado that was ever made up to this series. This car is just a beautiful timepiece. Beautifully cared for.

If GM brought back the Oldsmobile division and sold as new this Tornado, along with a 69 Delta 88 with a rocket 455 engine, every other car company would file for bankruptcy!
@LlyleHunter
@LlyleHunter 4 года назад
GM and Oldsmobile as a division made a major mistake when using the advertising campaign “This is not your father’s Oldsmobile.” Prior to the fuel crisis of 1973 Oldsmobile was GM’s division that had the highest percentage of mechanical upgrade options selected by buyers in the form of larger engines, transmission cooling systems, as Oldsmobile buyers were interested in long range car ownership. They were once in that aspect the most profitable division. The idea that their identity was a mistake was a blunder.

My favorite years for Oldsmobile were 1967 and 1968. Ninety Eight. Pillored Luxury Sedans especially. Remember when the big selling feature on the 68 GM model year was the recessed wipers. That idea has gone away now. It added about 4" to the hood length.

If GM brought this car back into production with this same body style it would sell. The same with the Cadillac Eldorado and Buick Riviera. This is when American cars weren't trying to copy European or Japanese cars -- they were uniquely American.

I used to have a 1982 white hard top i got from my friend for dirt cheap around 800 bucks and no rust. The car was from Arizona with a Nevada nuclear test site parking sticker on it. It was made with the factory 350 diesel but he switched it with a older 1970s 350 rocket. I blew the front axle out of the car after a few years being it was fast and huge torque. I could do mega front wheel burnouts too. I went through huge snow drifts with the pedal to the floor and eventually broke the whole grill out. I had the car for 2 years and it was the funnest times of my life owning that snow beast. Yes my crazy days are over now that I'm older and wish I would of keep it nice. Thanks for posting and bringing back my memories. Peace and a Thumbs Up.

The reason why this car was ordered with the tri-band antenna is most likely because there was a dealer installed CB radio that was available as an option as well. It actually plugs directly into the radio and speaker wire harness, and is completely hidden away with the exception of the microphone which controlled all of the CB functions. Either the setup was taken out at one time, or the microphone was simply missing. A very nice and rare Toronado indeed.

You can tell so much about one owner cars by their condition. This car was obviously garage-kept(no cracks in dash, no delamination of interior plastics, seats/carpets aren't sun bleached, etc.), original owner was also slim as the wear on the driver's seat for an 80,000 car is virtually non-existent.
