I actually had my Megatron on the front seat once. I was driving in North Carolina, and was stopped by police. A simple speeding violation, nevertheless I was scared. The moment he saw me, I swore he would shoot me, or drag me out the vehicle and haul me off to jail. So I rested my hands firm on the steering wheel, figuring as long as I kept still he would go easy on me. As I feared, the trooper saw him on the seat, emblazoned with Decepticon symbols, cleared his throat and said in a stern voice "You have a license to carry... the leader of the Decepticons?" We both laughed. He wanted to see it, I let him, he almost broke him trying to convert him, handed him back, let me off with a warning.

Same here. My brother got Optimus and I got Megatron.

Ah, the old brother rivalry.... We used to spend hours figuring out who was having which robot from the little product list posters that came with each of the larger Transformers. I got Optimus, he got Megatron, and then promptly lost him....

Same here. I literally blew a snot out of my nose laughing the first time I watched it. Producer Greg does all the editing and adding of visual and sound effects so I didn't know that was going to happen.

Toy Galaxy Yeah, but it should be a bit cheaper when Hasbro releases their version. I'm kinda a sucker for really really expensive transformers. :\

Maketoys 3rd party take on megatron is way better.

I'm guessing Hasbro version (if it ever gets released in the US) will have an orange tip.

There are certainly enough 3rd party versions out there to choose from at this point.

I'm still reeling from learning about the Microman usage as a cannon operator. I've had that thing for a looooong time.

Interesting perspective. Megatron has been around long enough that I'm sure his alt mode that feels "correct" varies from era to era depending on when you discovered him.

I didn't love the first MP Megatron. We'll see how the new one is.

Yeah, that seems to be the general sentiment towards that model. I really like it but the scale of it is huge.

Oh, the new Masterpiece Megatron is amazing. His robot mode is near-identical to his Animation Model, compared to the original's gun with a torso.

Man I just can't bring myself to use reprolabels. It's like, yeah, it looks good, but I KNOW that they're not real. It's like I'm lying to myself and I so afraid to be exposed as a fraud.

Toy Galaxy I see what you're saying. I guess for me it's wanting to see these figures in their prime, even if it means compromises in their authenticity. I do have a second unrestored one right next to it in gun mode, mind you..

It's gotta be THE weakest other than maybe Ironhide and Ratchet.

After that it was certainly more "more than meets the eye" than "robots in disguise."

I agree. Whether I prefer the tank or dinosaur or bat... gun will always be the one that feels the most correct.

No, the 1983 New MicroMan MicroChange toy came before TF G1, and that line was supposed to be modeled after 1:1 kid-hands-size lifesize objects, and Hasbro decided to base Transformers in part on these. Yes, it necessitated mass-shifting when they blended MicroChange with Diaclone, which is annoying and aggravating, but it is still very much part of the core concept of the entire line. With the Diaclone Jet-Robos forming F-15 fighter jets, their Seeker bot modes had to shrink in order to scale with Megatron's or Optimus's bot modes. And we would still have this problem with a tank-based Megs. There is no getting around it. So if you can indulge them with mass-shifting on the one, why not the other? Furthermore, it makes total sense as a matter of themes and emotional connotations to take a villified artifact of modern culture--a handgun--and then make that the alt mode of the villains' leader. An army tank? Meh, not so much. And lastly, I don't know where he got this from, but fellow TF reviewer Thew says it best: "You can't spell 'Megatron' without a 'Gat'!"

G1 Megs and Boba Fett were two old toys that I always looked at and had trouble connecting to the characters in their respective properties because they both look so different. Throw Ironhide and Ratchet in there too.
