I HAVE to give HUGE RESPECT to Collins. After he scored the TD to give the Patriots 30 points, he gave the ball to C.James. Since James ran like a gazelle on that drive. He had 8 rushes for 77 yards at that point. That was a class move by Collins! And James? WTF? He was incredible! A great game!

Thanks for uploading! My Uncle Paul played for the Patriots (#47- Dombroski) . Great to see his old playing days since I was a young kid then.

So much fun to see these clips again from my childhood, though very frustrating being a Jets fan at the time.. 6-2.. then finishing 7-9.

Lone Warrior They pulled the same stunt-only worse-in 1986: started out 10-1, lost their last 5 regular season games, managed to beat KC in the first round then lost at Cleveland in the “Gastineau Game.”

@@williampremo3096 Other than in '85 the Jets specialized in December collapses during the Joe Walton "reign". They lost their last two in '83 and never really got going in a season where they began as a SuperBowl favorite (laughable as I write it) coming off their run to the AFC Title Game in '82. Then they spoiled a nice 6-2 start in '84 to finish 7-9 again, but truth be told they beat up early on some weaker teams. This game against New England was emblematic of the overall collapse, up 20-3 just before half only to give up twenty-seven straight to lose comfortably. I still think '85 is the best Jet team I've seen in terms of balance, and while they played tough all year they made up for it by turning the ball over 800 times in the home wildcard loss to New England. In '86 they didn't just lose their last five but got absolutely smoked, then teased us some more when they backed into the playoffs, beat Kansas City soundly in the wildcard game then blew that late 10-point lead at Cleveland in the divisional round and eventually lost in 2OT. That season was beyond excruciating, which is really saying something for a Jet fan. In '87 they looked great starting 2-0, then were done in by the strike and the replacement player games. Still, they, were sitting at 6-5 before losing a tough Monday-nighter at Miami, then proceeded to lose out and finish 6-9. For good measure they also squandered a 4th quarter lead at eventual champion Washington in I think the first game back with the regular players. In '88 they again started well at 3-1 with some blowout wins, then went 2-5-1 during a mid-season stretch to drop out of contention highlighted by an inexcusable home tie against a bad Kansas City team. They did rebound to finish 8-7-1 and actually won some December games - including knocking the Giants out in the last week - but we all know that's only because they themselves had already been eliminated. Then the wheels fell off in '89 and finally Joe was Let Go. What a horrific period when the Jets had a pretty solid year-to-year roster. But it was bookended nicely by the 70s when they never challenged for anything and an early 90s period when they were starting to build something on defense before flaming out quite spectacularly in '93 and '94 which led to the non-competitive Kotite years and laughingstock status. At least we have the last decade of Jet football to hang our hats on when they...no we don't.

The Jets went from 6-2 here before the game to 7-9 by seasons end, typical Jets collapse. Why they kept Joe Walton for so many years still bugs me, terrible HC!

Marv Albert and John Brody on the call for this game on NBC at 1pm 😊. The Jets were off the chain in 1984-1986 . The Jets and Dolphins rivalry was blood boiling in the 80's Espically in 86 when Marino went against Ken o Brien in a shootout 51-45 classic game 😊. I miss those Jets uniforms lot of people don't know about Freeman McNeill Tony Eason Stanley Morgan Mark Gastineu Joe Klecko Wesley Walker Al Toon Johnny Hector.

Unfortunately their offensive scheme was so unimaginative. It was very frustrating to watch with all that talent. The Patriots were definitely an underachieving team for a good 5 years

All due respect, but it was the defense that got you there. And a solid running game. The decision to make The Blade the lead blocker was awesome. That AFC Championship game against the Dolphins was as good a defense as I've ever seen against their offense. They beat two division rivals and a very good Raiders team to get to the Big Game, averaging 279 yards of offense. They forced 16 turnovers in those 3 games. Tippett and his gang were almost as good as Ditka's boys. Eason threw 11 TDs and 17 picks that year. He looked LOST against Da Bears. I still think if they had started Grogan, and rolled him out like Marino did that year when he beat Chicago, they might have won the SB. I was rooting HARD for those Pats. Peace

@wedge233 11 месяцев назад
@@comfortat We did not beat the raiders, Marc Wilson SUCKED BAD. He called 2 timeouts in a row for no reason in the second half. Tony Eason was awesome but separated his shoulder 3 times. He took some hard hits in 1984. Grogan did play almost the whole super bowl, he sucked. Bears awesome. Eason is the only qb in history to go 0-6 in the super bowl. Fumbled on purpose.
@comfortat
@comfortat 11 месяцев назад
@@wedge233 Last time I looked, if you score more points than the opponent, you beat them. Grogan was 17 for 30 for 177 yards and a TD with 2 picks, Tony was 0 for 6 and looked like he had never played football before. The running game was 11 carries for 7 yards. Grogan had one run for 3 yards of that. Why you think Steve sucked is beyond me. The Bears completely stifled the running game, and Grogan was sacked 4 times. He was the only guy on the offense that grew a pair and competed his ass off. Eason had the ball on the Bears 19, then his own 41, and all they got was a FG. I think Grogan might have gotten them 10 points, and they could have gotten some mometum, rather than what Eason did, which was make the defense think they were never going to beat the Bears. It was 20-3 before they put in Grogan. Peace

No way !! He was a good player in a very good secondary. I remember roland James had a huge pick 6 in a late season game at Seattle that really told the story of that Cinderella team that super bowl year. 13 to 13 late and the Seahawks were driving but Roland james made the kind of opportunistic play that defense and special teams were known for.

@@bryanburnap4537 That was an excellent defense. If they had an average to above average offense, that team would have had a decent four of five year run.

@@markc5771 so true my man ! That secondary was awesome. Very opportunistic. Creating turnovers and ball hawking. I know as Patriots fans we are very spoiled and it is great when your team wins super bowls. Those mid 80's Patriots were very fun to watch and like you said they should have had more than just a year or 2 run of success. Tony Eason was not the answer :)
