Extremely helpful. I followed the instructions and was able to remove and disassemble the carbs in less than 2h. Note: What you called the accelerator pump is actually the air cut off valve.
Wow James - I can't believe you did this video. I just picked up an 85 CB450 for a couple hundred dollars and will be cleaning up the carbs. This video is awesome!!!
enjoying your vids dude... just bought a 1986 CB400 that has been sitting for several years - so im definately gonna need to clean the carbs - this gives me a good idea of what i can expect... cheers fella :)
but thanks I'm tearing into my 82 carbs today. got them off already just wanted to make sure there weren't any scary parts in it like a little steel ball somewhere that you don't see roll away but is necessary for its function. seen that before lol. looks pretty straightforward thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video. I would suggest when you're taking out your pilot screws, you should screw them in until they bottom out counting turns before you remove them. If you count on the way out it's hard to judge exactly where the threads start to catch or release. Also, did you pull out the air jet or just leave it in there for the dip?
my rebel will idle for a few seconds. but then if the choke is off it will cut out. this is a recent issue it was riding fine before like a week earlier.
Nice vid, I have an '82 CM450 and a '85 CB450, both have almost identical carb setups . Can you do a video on setting the pilot A/F mixture? Mine was never set properly and I'm not sure if the airbox boots are fully sealing too, so my bike has a big hesitation before ~30% throttle (very weak before that). My bowls are already notched to turn the A/F screw, I have the same hesitation problem on both bikes.. . BTW: At 10:05 those are air cut-offs, accel pump is on throttle-side carb's float bowl.
Would it be possible to show or explain how to change the float needle seat on the 450 nighthawk? I am having trouble removing them. Your video has helped me immensely. Thank you.
Roughly about hour to get carbs off, hour or two to disassemble carbs. soak as long as your product recommends, then a couple hours to reassemble it all. Good luck, and more importantly enjoy!!!
There is a seal in the pilot screw i am pretty shore you lost it. There is also some seals in the butterfly axel I am certain that you destroyed it in the cleaning solution. Do you're carbs work well after cleaning?
At 10:00 you speak casually of removing the "accelerator pump" cover and part inside. This is locate BETWEEN the twin carbs and thus not accessible with a normal screwdriver. Since you never separate the two carbs how in the blazes did you gain access to those screws to remove this cover?!
