I personally think this shows the true elegance of a western horse. They moved so much better. Pleasure horses these days look trapped within themself.

They are beautiful. I watched some classes online from the Congress this past fall and they were lovely too. I have a nice QH and love riding that smooth slow canter. He does it all by himself and I do not have to correct or jerk; he just moves that way. I think those who criticize wish they could find and get one like that.

So if these horses are already trained to move like this; and it's a 2 year old class - when were they broke? Since the growth plates don't mature until the age of 4...and we wonder why horses are broken down by 20. Please LET YOUR BABIES GROW!

These horses have probably been under saddle for like a month or two, they train them after they turn two

The good ones ( like these n this video) don’t get rode 7 days a week 2 hours a day. They are bred to do this just like any other horse, when you have the nicest bloodlines money can buy to start off with, 3/4th’s of the work is already done for you, they want to go like that all by themselves so all a good trainer has to do is get out of his the horses way. 3 days a week n a row 20-30 minutes each day is ALL that they have someone on their back. The rest of the time is spent working on ground manners and loading unloading out of the trailer getting used to clippers etc.....most people have a HUGE MISUNDERSTANDING of western pleasure horses and now days it’s even more so but I’m hear to tell you from a trainers point of view we try NOT to ride them as 2 yr olds NO MORE THAN WE ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO, we know they’re growing still and it could injure them so we try to do as much as possible on the ground as yearlings coming 2, we don’t want them wore out or crippled either, these horses got it better than most people I promise. Especially today it’s crazy how much people baby them lol!! But I do understand why people have the opinion they do about the 2 yr olds especially so I just wanted to try and provide you with a view from the other side I apologize if I offend you or come across as a bleep bleep lol

@@naomilandry7816 German sport horses are sold worldwide, most olympic medalist horses are bred in Germany or German sport horse lines. We know how to breed champions. No one in Germany would even consider starting to ride a horse before it tuns 3. No way. Two years olds are still babies with weak bones and joints. You're ruining your horses!

@@guestuser1671 hahaha my opinion has changed greatly since my comment. Starting two year olds is disgusting. Starting them at three and four is much better

I wish the horses now a days would go like this. They look crippled today. Just awful. Btw thoroughbreds race at 2 years. That’s why they do break their legs

This is more like it! Straighter line from poll to croup, allowing freer motion of the fore-quarters and avoiding the "hitching" as the horse struggled to move its front end forward. I'm very impressed.

This was when horses had to collect up appropriately. Anyone can cheat and run a horse's nose into the rail. But REAL riding and horsemanship begins with REAL training, and understanding of the word "collection." Judges should NOT place exhibitors who do this. In fact, they should be automatically disqualified for doing this, especially at this level of competition. There is simply no excuse for the AQHA or APHA to allow this to continue. It ruins the breed. It ruins horsemanship. And it makes a mockery of it's intention.
@thefiestyginger5031
@thefiestyginger5031 8 лет назад
Also, notice how the horses' heads don't look like their bobbing for trout? They move like a horse instead of looking like they are lame and in pain. I had a judge once who refused to give out a first place ribbon. Let me tell ya, that straightened us all up in a hurry. Judges should do this when exhibitors think they can cheat the system for a ribbon.

I in fact own a 16 year old quarter horse who I have owned for about 5 years now. We ride english, we jump, and we even throw some western EQ in there occasionally, and her gates look nothing like this, or the present day western "pleasure." Just giving you some reassurance that not all quarter horses were taken down the horrible path of western pleasure. (I have nothing against this video, this is WAY better than present day western pleasure. I do have lots against present day though.... :/ )

well, at least they had recognizable gaits. Still not really how a horse should move, but they at least moved sorta kinda like horses should. SHAME on the "pleasure" horse classes in more recent times... those poor beasts just look pitiful.
