1985 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 302 V8, 53,xxx original miles, at Country Classic Cars in Staunton, IL. Just a nice, well cared for, fox body Mustang. We hope you like it, thanks for taking a look!
i owned an 85 GT in Black and i'm sorry but this model would be great if it werent for that automatic transmission. This thing is a dog with that option. Every modern mini van will beat that thing in the 1/4 mile.
If memory serves me well, the '85 V-8 AOD Mustangs still used the non-roller '84 engine with cast iron exhaust manifolds and it was initially rated at 165hp (single exhaust with the dual tip, like the '84 5.0Ls), I believe mid year or so, the quasi-dual exhaust from the '85 roller engine stick cars(dual exhaust after the single cat) became standard and power was uprated to 180hp(but still used the non-roller engine). Ford always seemed(well many U.S. manufacturers) to work in reverse when doing upgrades :-( Although, I get it, during these times, many performance oriented enhancements had to go through a stringent battery of tests to ensure it would be EPA compliant, so most manufacturers stuck with what was already approved for certain engine/transmission combinations. The 1986 SEFI would be the breakthrough, in which both stick and auto 5.0L Mustangs would have the same engine :-)
Those were nice sleeper looking cars. All the performance of the GT, but without the bling and the price tag...sort of like a Firebird Formula vs Trans Am. A friend from high school had the 5 speed version of that car. It had a terrific first gear and ran under a 15 second 1/4 mile. Not sure what rear end ratio he had, but it was fast for the period.
My dad had one when I was a child (in England) he brought her in 1998/9 and she was red on red cloth interior, manual, v6 with a gt spoiler.....registration was C220 MGN, we called her Megan
I had an 86 GT that had the multi-port injection (first year) and the 5 speed and that thing was quick! Too bad I traded it with some 120,000 miles on it for only $1500... But, that was around 2001. Still wish I had kept it... Nice ride with only 53,000 miles on it!
Last car I owned was an '88 LX w/5 speed. FL car and I knew the original owner. It was a blast to drive. That is a lot of car for the money, I never really appreciated the fox body Mustang till I drove one. Looks great !
Nice example, the paint looks great! I just picked up an 84 GT Convertible, carb model, 5 speed, with 3.08 rear and it's pretty quick! It handles well in corners too, they are making a comeback for sure. Great video as always, Tyler
