Awesome! I love it, I wish the Ford and GM cars still had different shapes. Now they just have different motors and front nose pieces. These days were just plain better, and so were the drivers.

The racing was so much better back then. We need to make stock car racing great again.

Mechanical grip and horsepower. The simple days of nascar when Summer time could sponsor a race, the drivers chewed Levi Garrett and drank Budweiser.

I've only been to Pocono once, in June 1995. It was a good time. Richard Petty was the Grand Marshall, the Hooters girls were working the Hooters trailer, and in the end, Dale Jarrett won in a fuel mileage race.

Dear... GOD! old 500 mile Pocono races were long!!!!
@SMIFFTV
@SMIFFTV 7 лет назад
They were absolute marathons. They still were up until a few years ago before they switched to 400 miles, but they were even more painstakingly long back in the 80's when the cars were running 20 mph slower

3 hours and 14 minutes after all the commercials were edited, plus pre and post race. The run time of this race is listed as 3 hours and 45 minutes from the green to the checkered, with somewhat minimal caution flags. Still a very long race.

If Bill Elliott could’ve only had too 15 finishes on the short tracks he would’ve easily won the 1985 championship.

If ya watch the special on Petty at 1:03:00 into the race, what he talks about when he's talking about getting started in racing is what NASCAR's missing now in my opinion. You have a few of the drivers that are just guys that wanna race and work on their cars. But I think the sports just gotten to big, and trying to hard to be fit for TV.

I love how those old NASCAR race cars ROARED by when passing by the cameras. Today's NASCAR race cars sounds neutered in comparison. I also think that the competing drivers being a bit spread out, back then, made for better racing than the bumper-to-bumper races of today. The spread out field also lessens crashes, too.

The last season in which both Pocono races were 500-mile events was 2011 with Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski winning those. After 2011 they repaved the track for the first time since 1995, and followed what Dover did in between their 1997 events: Change the distances of the races from 500 to 400 miles. Joey Logano and Jeff Gordon won the first two revised 400-mile races (Gordon's win was cut short due to rain), at Dover in June Ricky Rudd won the final 500-mile race, while Mark Martin won the first revised 400-mile race.

They let Bobby drive an ARCA car. Wonder how different or similar they were to the Cup cars back then?
@bigb4894

Hardly any difference back then. Most ARCA cars years ago were 1 and 2 year old ex-Cup cars.

Big B is right. They were the same except the ARCA teams were allowed to run a rollerized bearing setup in the engines for reduced wear. (I'm a former crew member for James Hylton)

Love your videos and subscribed. Your racing history collection is gold. One question: what's with the skipping? Is that how it came through on the satellite feed? Still awesome nonetheless.
@SMIFFTV
@SMIFFTV 7 лет назад
Sometimes it's a satellite thing, most times it's from the original VHS-to-DVD transfer. 75% of everything I've uploaded is off of DVDs acquired online. The other 25% are ones that I copied myself a few years ago before my DVD/VHS recorder shit the bed. The skipping is an annoyance, but thankfully it's not constant. I wish I could fix it! lol

I've gotten tired of the hour long pre race crap and 1-2 hours after. Interviews are always the same. Just show the damn race, victory lane and then leave. Same crap with other sports. Show the damn game, shut up and leave.
@bloqk16
@bloqk16 4 года назад
@Mike C . . . I realize this is coming late . . . but TV networks do those pre and post race/game shows for the advertising dollars they gain. If companies were not willing to dole out the advertising dollars to the networks for the pre and post shows, the networks would not run them. Consider this: The broadcast was with ESPN. ESPN figured they could get more advertising dollars for the pre-race show than they would if they a show on billiards or track & field competition . . . as companies would pay little to buy advertising time for the billiards or T&F broadcasts; as their popularity with TV viewership is minuscule compared to NASCAR. If people wonder why TV networks does what they do in the broadcast day/evening/night/morning, it is driven with earning advertising dollars.
