thank you Sawyer i love how it sounds too..lol. i made those pipes. Stock head pipes with 1.75" OD 14 " extensions with homemade baffles. I cut 3 slits and hammered them on and over top of the stock muffler stops on the head pipes. then welded it all up and wrapped them.
Yes they are. I am actually selling mine. Here's the link. She looks a lot different now than this video shows. lol southjersey.craigslist.org/mcy/d/cologne-1985-honda-shadow-bobber-s/7084770266.html
Thanks so much I took the file ideA of yours and put a wire brush tip on my battery operated drill and wow looks like a new engine you help me take my bike to another level thanks again big time.peace
Thanks a lot man. The apes were custom made. Unfortunately the guy who did them is no longer doin this type of work. The exhaust is the stock head pipes and I welded on 14" extension x 1.75" ID with home made lolliepop baffles.
Figured I'd up date on this video since it has the most hits. The bike now has a 120 front tire, new back tire and shock boots. I made a seat pan and covered it in the same material. It has solo seat springs. Harley round rider pegs. Thermal fan switch is jumped out and I'm running the fans to a toggle and I got a radiator cap with a built in temp gauge. Next week I'm installing pod filters and a rejet. I hope to post a new video then. Peanut tank is in the works.
As of 4/27/17. I had my Peanut tank powder coated. I just got it back yesterday, 27th. This up coming week I will be running new copper fuel lines and installing the tank. I plan on doing anothe video. Those of you who watch this video,,, She looks totally different now. Have a great weekend everyone. God Bless.
i made a seat pan. i am no longer using the seat in this video. I attached a bracket to the middle front of the pan. it bolts to the gas tank mount. there is another video showing the spring solo seat. that is bolted to the stock frame cross over plate. originally i used the stock 2 up seat pan and cut it down to a solo. but with doing luanches, its to weak the way its mounted. so i made a new pan. hope that helps.
yes. fuse box is under the seat. seat springs are mounted on the stock cross over plate. the one with factory holes in it. EDIT. That seat pan in this video has been changed. I am running solo seat springs. Click my user name and watch the newer videos from this month. The front of the seat on both seat pans has a bracket that has a hole in it and the gas tank bolt goes into it.
Sounds very nice. I have an 85 750 Shadow in a bobber style but its no where nears nice and clean as yours. Wheres you get your handle bars? Type of exhaust? Very nice bike.
This was the first iteration of the seat. Lol What I did here was cut down the original seat pan and then added rear mounting points. I then trashed that seat pan and made my own out of diamond plate. I added a spring kit because the hard tail was hurting my back. If you look at my other videos you will see the final iteration of the bike. It's completely different than what you see here.
Idk if you check this at all but i fell in love with this bike and i finally found it!! I have so many questions before i dive into my chop i am after this exact look !!
Thank you. They are 10 inch harley sportster hard tail struts. I did have to hone the holes out and the fit pretty tight. Just be careful not remove to much material.
what kind of exhaust is that? picking up a vt500 next week and i want to turn it into a bobber. love the rumble you've got going on. killer looking bike too.
@ J.Q. Sorry I didn't answer you sooner. I'm usually on that shit. But for some reason these comments are old first. Idk. Weird. Anyway. Easy as pie. For right now I'm not running a tach. But I do plan to. All I did was safe off the tach wires when I put a motor from a 84 500. Long Story. But 84's are cable drive tachs. But when I bore out my original motor I will buy an electronic tach. The speedo has to be a 2240:60 ratio. Mostly all Metric bikes use this speedo ratio.
Oh it goes over 120kmh I've had mine to 165 kmh I live in Canada where there lots of open roads no traffic not near any cities but. I just worry about hurting my performance by modding my exhaust.. but saying all this I can put it all back on if I don't like it lol. thanks for the tips
No prob. Out of the bikes i've owned and modded the only time i've lost performance was with shorty drag pipes. Lost low end torq. Increased top end horsepower. My extensions are 14" long. If you stay within an inch of that your torq and power will go up. TOP END MPH/KPH will increase too imo.
Hows 8t going brother do you still have the bike I know you was selling it.i did alot.mor work on mines going.to post a video on the carbine Joey channel again thanks for the bars
Hey Joe. All is well. Thank you. How's everything with you & yours? I was going back forth about selling it and I do have it listed on CL. You're welcome for the bars. Looking forward towards your video. Take care and God Bless. southjersey.craigslist.org/mcy/d/cologne-1985-honda-shadow-bobber-s/7084770266.html
The seat in this video is the stock plastic seat pan that I cut down into a solo. Since then I made a new seat pan out of 1/8" diamond plate and covered it. See the newer videos for that seat.
Thanks for all your help I did my exhaust but I want to add some tips to the pipes can you tell me the correct size I need I measured the exhaust pipes and I think there 1 1/2 so what size do I get 1 3/4 ? Thanks for all your help
Awesome. depends if you want your tips INSIDE the pipe or OUTSIDE the pipe. Get your self a caliper measuring tool and go from there. I used Copper Plumbing 45s. Measuring the OD or ID OUTER DIAMETER or INNER DIAMETER will tell you exactly what size tips you need. Hope that helps. Congrats.
@@BASKETBALL_LOVE14 I should have said it this way. The exhaust tip size you will need is 1 1/2" It will fit 1 1/2 OD exhaust pipe because it will be flared a bit.. Sorry. Was rushing to answer as I was heading out the door.
I also have a 86 shadow vt500 can you tell me how you got the fins on the motor to be so clean looking I have done alot of upgrades to mine also and would love to clean up the motor cooling fins
manchild Oh, thank you! I appreciate the QUICK reply. I'm actually considering to buy either the 1986 Shadow 500 that has already been bobbered out, for $500, or save up money for a 2007 Shadow VLX 600 (4 speed only), but CLEAN and has fat tires for $2250. Decisions, decisions.
Thank you! Exactly. Not sure if he's feeding a line when he says because he has to move out of state by Wednesday. He had it posted for $750, but the registration alone with fees was $322, so I offered $400-$450 cause I don't really know the condition without testing. He counter back that another person is coming tomorrow for $600. (Sorry, wall of text below:). I'll look at your updated bike. Have another question I'm cutting my pipes tomorrow but some people say you have to reject them so people say you really don't have to did you reject yours
Hey Joe. No I did NOT rejet. I adjusted the air fuel screws outward to allow more fuel. A/F screws is NOT THE IDLE SCREW. The A/F screws have a factory cap that must be drilled out to get to them. Should be how tos on the forum or Y/T. As long as you keep the stock air filter and air box you will NOT have to re jet. ALTHOUGH a rejet would improve the bike over all. Even in stock trim. They are set LEAN from the factory.
If you are not at sea level you may need to rejet. It depends. I would still turn the A/F screws out first. Do NOT turn the A/F screws out passed 3.5 turns. BE SURE THAT ONCE DIALED IN, USE SOME RTV in the holes for the a/f screws so they don't vibrate out over time.
What did you have to do to the shaft drive when lowering the rear with the solid struts? The shaft drive on my VT500 is binding and causing the rear wheel to lock up when I put my lowering struts on and I need a solution. Thanks
‘83. Maybe the shaft drive joints differ a little between the model years? Not sure. Did you lower your forks? Maybe if I bring the forks down a little then the U joint will be at less of an angle so it doesn’t bind? I
I had the bars custom made. They were one offs. The fuse box???....I rewired the entire bike and moved the fuse box behind the side cover and insided the stock air box to protect it.
No. The bars were custom made for me and by my specs. I did a 9.5" rise so I could use the stock cables and brake line. The guy who made them for me has been mia for 5 plus years. lol
Go to my videos and look at the video marked Shadow vt500 Peanut tank test. That's what it looked like when right before I sold it. Headlight was replaced with a different one.
o1oo sorry i didnt see ur ? til today. Yes it is over spray. I have new tires to install. Once i remove the old tires i will repaint the back rim and paint the front.
now did u say your top speed is 120 kmh? reason I'm asking is I'm looking to mod my exhaust a similar way to yours I have exact same bike... but I'm afraid of loosing the power in the bike.. my bike goes way faster then 120 kmh
stock speedo says 140 MPH or 150 not sure its not on the bike anymore. After mkt one says 140. When this video was taken I had just done the pipes. Since then I've re-jetted and installed Pod filters. Acceleration hAS GREATLY INCREASED. As far as top speed. I have no clue if it would go that fast even in stock form. I have never been over 120. I only worry about traffic light to traffic light and 1/4 mile. Post a video when you get it done. I'd like to see it.
Sweet. The video you watched of mine,,,, the bike looks completely different now. The newest is dated Feb. I was testing position of led headlights. decided on horizontally mountin 1 instead of 2. But of the newer video is one with pod filters and rejeted carbs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gI4FldpN79Y.html I know have floor boards. Much more comfy...lol I need to post a new video but that won't be until the weather complies...lol
I subscribed ! Lol i wonder if you still use your channel but I was wondering what does drilling the slides mean ? I found your forum post and it gave me hope since mine isn’t running at its best. My bike has uni foam filters/pods with straight pipes no baffle and has 42 slow jets with 128 front & 138 rears. I did the calculator for carbjetkits.com and gonna need 45 slow jets with 128 and 130 main jets. Just wondering if I need to drill the vac slides like you did but I don’t even know what that is lol. I’ve torn apart my carbs many times so I know what to disassemble.
Hi Albert. Thanks for subbing. First and fore most since you are not running any type of baffle you should test for reversion on decel.( Should be a detailed how to post on the forum by me if I remember correctly.) I would suggest that you install some lollie pop baffles or something. You are risking burning out an exhaust valve by running straight pipes. It depends on how long your pipes are as to how fast an exhaust valve will/can burn up. I made my own lollie pop baffles. You can do a search to see how they are made or you can order some by the size of pipe (INNER DIAMETER) you are running. DRILLING THE SLIDES. On the bottom of the Vac slides is a small hole. I forget the size drill bit but drill them out. Search the forum for the size bit or call Carb Jetkits. They may tell you.
In This video? Its the stock unit. In my newer videos from February? They are off road rectangular LED units. I have since went with 1 Rectangle led instead of the 2 light set up that I tried out. Didn't like it.
I made it. lol. Using 1.75" od pipe 14" length. I cut 3 1" slits and got a hammer and a block of wood and hammered them over the stock head pipes muffler stops and then had my buddy weld them on for me. Then I bent up some home made lollipop baffles.( basically flat brackets bent in half with a hole drilled in it.) But you can use a bolt and washer method. Just google Lolli Pop baffles. Placed them 3" inward into the front cyl pipe and 2.5" inward into the rear cyl. pipe. You will need to adjust the air fuel screws on the carbs. to dial it in so there is no pops on deceleration. Hope that helps. My buddy and I wrapped them.
1.25" diameter. 9" rise. Custom made. Only one ever made. Stock head pipes with 1.75" OD 14 " extensions with homemade baffles. I cut 3 slits and hammered them on and over top of the stock muffler stops on the head pipes. then welded it all up and wrapped them.
Ty Mike. Update. I got the peanut tank installed. I was able to install it without welding any tabs. Completely bolt on. I still have to run my copper tube fuel line (to match the tips) but once the weather breaks a bit I will be doing another video.
