Whirlpool made excellent dishwasher s too. We had an old kitchenaid that lasted for many years over 30 years left it to the new owners when we sold the house. We had a similar whirlpool dishwasher in our new home. I believe it was a 90s model.
My similar late 90s Whirlpool made a similar noise. I got a pump rebuild kit, and after the easy install, the noise was gone. The older mechanical whirlpool dishwashers are great machines.
@@jeromedavis8575 I agree. EPA and Energy Star is total bullshit. And new appliances are definitely not energy efficient at all, despite the energy star rating. My mother would take this dishwasher over any new appliance that will break in no time.
I've seen new GFI's die for no apparent reason. I found some brand new commercial-grade ones at a habitat store a few years ago. So far so good. As far as dishwashers go, we replace one some 20 years old with a Kenmore model from K-Mart that was around 250 dollars some 5 years ago. It won't sting as much when it fails.
I believe 1994 was the year the eco fascists started dialing down how much water your dishwasher was allowed to use. So anything made before then ought to do a proper job.
Pump cavitating causing vibration possibly due to not quite filling correctly. There could be some kind of damage to the pump impeller also. This was a workhorse in whirlpool’s and was generally a builders grade model in new homes for decades. Only beef I ever had with them is if a leak forms around the pump housing it’s usually destroyed the motor by the time it’s caught in this configuration. Not my favorite vintage platform, but whatever floats ones boat. Looks like a lower hour machine as well and that’s why it’s survived this long.
Now the vintage appliances are definitely the one and only last resort. This dishwasher would much better than a new Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, GE, or any big box store appliance manufacturer. That would replace a new GE dishwasher that broke. Kitchen remodeling was never my thing especially with appliances, after I realize that the new appliances people buy from home improvement store, like Lowe's or Home Depot, are meant to break after less than a couple of years. You can look for vintage whirlpool fridge and a fridge with a kitchen. That is definitely and has been a great serviceable dishwasher compared to today's junk.
The tag on the inside edge of the door says it has the power clean module that grinds up scraps and that it could make a grinding noise when functioning. Perhaps that's what your noise is. I have a slightly newer model.. it's been in the house since we bought it in 1994 and still going strong. The house was built in 87. The inside of the unit is the same as yours but mine doesn't have the tag so not sure if it has that power clean function.
