Thank you so much for posting this.I never got to see this race when it was televised, as I was on exercise at the time. I loved this era of Australian Touring Cars with so many brands & loads of experimentation. It's a shame that Holden had so much influence over the championship & had the rules changed to suit themselves.

Loved the early days of Group A. So many different brands...all with unique attributes...but in the end having similar performance.

I remember back in 1986 a lot of people expected the new Group A Commodore's to walk all over the turbo's as back then most Aussie fans thought big V8 power was nigh on unbeatable. To most the only thing that held the Commodore's back in 1985 was lack of development against proven Group A winners like the BMW 635, Volvo turbo and V12 Jaguar. It came as quite a culture shock that 1986 marked the start of 7 years of turbo domination. Holden fans never did get used to turbo's mostly because Holden opted to stay with the V8 Commodore as its hero car. Of course, they didn't have the money to start trying to develop things like a Barina or even Commodore turbo so a V8 it was. And it hurt them no end because being beaten on the racetrack save the 1990 Bathurst 1000 wasn't sitting well with fans or buyers.....and then throw in that fans backed Brock first, Holden second and things weren't great for GMH.

Channel 7 were actually incorrect with their info on the Volvo. It was a 240T, not a 242T. The 242 was never homologated for Group A racing.

DJ Mustang did Not have the power it should have had, Commodores probably had more power, the BMWs had good power/handling/cornering etc, the turbo cars were light good power!! GOOD Racing!!!! 👍👍👍👍 You HAVE too Love DJs humor even when racing a REAL Character!!!!!!

Those days had spirit and pation. The current sport is as boring as bat you know what!
