The Frank Parham trained Bounty Lady (D. Clarke) scored in section 1 at the expense of the Philip Feanny owned and trained gelding Le Gateau piloted by Fanna, whilst Royal Holiday with Chinna Bartley ended up a close third. Grey Streak was completing a double for the jockey /trainer/owner combination of Winston Griffiths, Norman Palmer and Ruth Hussey, respectively. This, after Prime Time (Bounty Hunter - Is In Time) made an auspicious debut over the straight five course, winning by 15 lengths in 59.0 on a day the 168-1 grey outsider Royal Rabbi made all under Ian Adjmul to stun the massive crowd at the track in an E class contest, going 10 furlongs. Memories memories memories😂... nuff respect Rohan!!!
Good memories. Two greys winning both races. In Section 1: The Frank Parham trained Bounty Lady ( Donovan Clarke) getting the better of Le Gateau (Fanna), The Abbot (Miller) and Royal Holiday (Chinna). Section 2: Fanna guided Grey Streak to victory for trainer Norman Palmer and owner Ruth Hussey.
I started paying attention to racing in the early 90's and Fanna was my jockey, while other friends had Bartley, Bimbo, Slicer, Hussey, etc as theirs. Watching a younger Fanna showed the aggressiveness in his riding style. I guess when i started watching him he was more of a cool calm and tactical rider. But a young Griffiths looks dangerous in the saddle.
I bet most people don’t remember that year 1986 was the first time fanna started riding back for Phillip Feanny after he fell from Hello pochie loo in the Jockey club stake going seven forlong in 1983 after clipping Ettu hind leg at the half mile …… fanna never ride a next horse for Mr Feanny from 1983 up until 1986 the first horse that fanna rode him was Prince Consort in the Jamaica Darby and the rest is history
Good afternoon family you have very good memories. I remember the race when Fanna fell from Hello Pooochie Lou and he was supposed to ride Aid A Native with 133lbs in another race that day and Kennedy Posnall replaced him and did a fair job of finishing 3rd with the big weight, I am sure that the trainer could have used a better replacement but not all jockeys can balance the extra led that well there why they probably hooted for Pownall.
@nevillecunningham5713 well come to the vintage racing channel. Please like, subscribe and share with all. There are a number of races on the channel for you to watch. Including Derby's and other big races. Thank you.
As a 6th former then I won so much cash off Donovan Clarke's winning rides i ended up traveling overseas for 5 years. At the start of each race something you never see across the island anymore - kids playing cricket.
Fanna at his best again, I don’t remember that race but I remember Grey Streak was ridden by Karl Brown sometimes, on Boxing Day 1986 Karl Brown finished second to Bimbo in a race on the same horse and after the race Karl Brown was laughing
Chris armond calling a race that Winston Griffiths won is like drinking fine wine. You cannot tell me fanna was not his favorite his voice gets super electric making the victory that more facile.
Remember superstakes day 79 fanna rode singing Jude and bimbo rode reform and they both went for a space at the top of the straight ,CA said fanna hesitated and bimbo took the space and won by a head...
Before 1986 only once fanna ever win a race for Feanny and that horse is Bert by Joe ….the only other horse I can remember fanna rode for my Feanny is Turdor Rhythm and came third and of note the only time I can remember fanna rode for Wayne DeCosta is horse name Prince Zalair I first race beating bimbo on Hagar by head with chinna Bartley came in third I can’t remember the horse that Bartley rode….but it was a three way photo finish…..fanna never ride a next horse for Mr DeCosta until the year when Simple Magic won the triple crown the later part of the year that’s when fanna got his first ride from Wayne and won I can’t remember the horse name but all I know it’s was one two for. Wayne All aboard came second with Slicer Simpson …fanna did have short stint with DeCosta
