My first vehicle I bought at 16 was a 77 K5 Blazer, 4 inch lift, giant Holley carb, 35 inch tires. Black with all red shag carpet interior, my high school love machine. lol. Let's just say we had some fun wheeling in high school. friends had 70's Scouts and Broncos. The Blazer dominated them all in Michigan terrain, I was constantly pulling someone out. Lots of Fords. Second truck was a 78 K5, blue, I built front and rear bumpers in welding class for both ot them, one had a 25 foot anchor chain with a huge hook, welded to the frame and I would wrap the bumper with it. Subtle things like that. I also bought a K5 out in Denver years later and drove it around without the top all the time. Not very practical but fun.
Actually impressed, there are a lot of ppl that don’t know about Eddies blue collar roots as a semi truck mechanic I think that’s one of the reasons I always liked Ed, he started like most of us did. Turning wrenches to pay the bills, and not afraid to get dirty when need be. Gotta respect that
I got myself an 89 camaro (garage find parked 17 years) brings back memories when me and my dad worked on my cousin's camaro a yellow rally sport about 78', when i was younger 15, he was a few months older. We went through it timing was messed up, new air filter, old spark plugs, tightened up the squeaky belt, and I found two spark plug wires mixed around (3 and 5) nothing like a 1500 rpm backfire. got it running pretty good till we got 4 miles out of town and it died come to find out we missed a wire on on the distributor. He pulled over quickly pushed in the clutch put it in neutral, opened the hood and he knew exactly what wire he missed, then got that old RS booking through gears. I remember squishing into that seat for 3 gears lol good ol' 4 on the floor.
Brings back memories. I love it. It's obvious that you're not going mudding, which is good or you definitely be replacing the transmission....again and again...
Gotta love an ol Chevy. She's a beauty. I've got a 79' GMC 1 ton long wheelbase dually I built, put a flatbed on it and stuck a 454 in her, man what a rumble. She'll pass about anything but a gas station lol.
So great that you are here in Idaho, I think that more people need to know you live here. You would definitely have a bigger local following if you mentioned it a bit more. You are a great role model. Love to see you with Matt Carrier on the ranch!
I've owned a 72, 73, and a 77 blazer. My favorite was the 72. They were all good, I've never owned one as new as yours, but it should be fun. Have a great day.
Absolutely gorgeous blazer I had a 84 k5 just out of high-school it was cheap and ugly but I fixed a lot of things and had fun mudding with my friends made a lot of memories I loved my k5 I wish I could find it and get it back. I will have another k5 blazer some day
This popped up in my feed bc I have an 86 k5 that I daily and I'm constantly looking shit up. HUGE bonus when I saw it was Roberts. Also I have 3 of the mystery switches in various locations around the dash😅
The husband and I just bought an 85 K5 a month ago as a new project car. I drove one in high school and we always wanted one we could beast out. Can’t wait to see what yours looks like!
Congrats on the new money pit!! Those are an awesome platform. Best to plan out your upgrade path so you don't have any wasted money bolted on you lose later. Let's see, to start with, rock sliders, bumpers, skid plates, and a combo roll bar/light bar/tire holder. Follow that up with upgrades to the 4wd system and axles, then an engine upgrade with a supercharger, a new transmission, and upgraded cooling system. I think you can get this where you want it for only another $40k. Unless you decided to go diesel with portal axles, then a good bit more.
Love the truck, I’m quite tall like you and learned that they have a lot of leg/head room with bucket seats and tilt steering. Got an 87’ suburban at 14 for my first vehicle and have a bunch of other squares. Glad to see one of my favorite strongman finally get one.
loved it "that's just a loose belt..." that's not a thing, belts don't just get loose, more likely a belt tensioner, idler wheel or just needs a new belt. Great content Robert ! keep it up!
I had a blazer like that. Used to close the hood just like he did here. Only problem was my hood springs were sticky, very sticky. Ended up folding the hood one day. Lol. Sad day.
Love the K5s. I had a 1980. 4" lift. Not as nice looking. Mine was more of a drivable mud buggy. Kids loved taking the top off and back roading. It looks awesome man.
That's awesome Obie and I definetly want to see more of it. I really like the color. I had a 79 K5 back in the nineties and I did throw a overbored 468 cui Chevy LS5 with a heavy duty TH400 into it, also a lot of goodies from Edelbrock like heads and manifold, MSD, Hooker, Fluidampr and so on. Lot's of torque and lots of HP. Man, this has been good times and I still miss it. But with the actual gas prices here in Germany I would be doomed. LOL
Before you replace your sidesteps with normy steps replace them with either iron ones or best bet ones made from cement. Like shaped to fit concrete blocks. Anything less will just bend, fall off, fly across the pond & hit Eddie upside the head! 🆒️🆒️😉 Cool ride by the way. 👍👍💯✅
