@ryskins AS a Giants fan, it was always tough going against a joe Gibbs coached team. He truly was an all-time great coach. The '86 Redskins were without a doubt an excellent team. I wished the Giants would have beat the loud-mouthed Bears, but the Skins' beat em to it. Great job by them shutting the lights on that would be dynasty that they thought they had. Skins won 3 SBs with 3 different QBs. Just amazing.

Joe Gibbs' name doesn't come up nearly enough when people are debating the best ever NFL head coaches. 3 Super Bowl Championships with 3 different QB's is an incredible feat. And none of the 3 were truly great QB's. Theismann was good but Doug Williams and Mark Rypien were journeymen who were backups for a good portion of their careers

No excuse! The Bears defense didn't stop the Redskins the week before. The Bears had one great year in the last 46 yrs and that was in '85.

How the hell did Alvin Walton never make a Pro Bowl? Horribly underrated saftey. Only saftey I've seen that almost got 200 tackles in a season. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

I am a huge Redskins fan, but c'mon, the Giants were obviously the best team in the NFL in 1986.

I remember all the paper flying around the stadium that day. It looked like a blizzard. It was like a dream...The Giants were going to a Super Bowl?! Besides Bavaro and Morris we had no offense (Lionel Manual..Bobby Johnson? Yikes!)The Defense was nasty though. '85 Bears, '00 Ravens and '86 Giants take your pick from the best ever.

The Giants own the Redskins. Look at the all-time record between the two. Not even close. The Giants will sweep them this year like so many other years. I respect the Redskins, but the Giants just simply own them. What can I say? George Vreeland Hill

the '86 Giants are definitely underrated. They destroyed Montana, Rice and the 49ers the week before and just overpowered the Redskins in the NFC title game. The Giants defense of the '80's was backbreaking

But they lost to the cowboys once, then almost lost again to them.3-4 defense worked great against 49 ers and Redskins but not against Cowboys(4-3 worked better against them).

I remember watching this game when I lived in NJ and it was so cold lol good ole Jersey lol and this when football was football not the weak stuff you see now and the highlights were better back then from the soundtrack to the way NFL films carefully edited the highlights not like now where you hear more radio commentary than the narrator
@AnxietyDilemma

They just need their defense to hold the highest scoring offense in NFL history to a mere 14 points, and yes, it is much better.

Well, you have a point. We were 10-11 against u in the 80s. You owned us earlier in the decade. We owned u in the later part, 87 sweep notwithstanding. Since then we are 12-6 against u this decade and 11-8-1 in the 90s. We also own the overall head-to-head record 88-62-4. So the OP who said "ny ain't got squat on the Skins" was still wrong.

I think Clark is a HOFer, but he's not better than Irvin. Irvin is dominant and physical against defenders, and is usually second to only Rice in many post season stats. Gotta love these nerds who try degrade one's on field success, with their off the field issues. Should LT be taken out of the HOF too because he was a cocaine addict?
@1SWEETSERENADER
@1SWEETSERENADER 2 года назад
Irvin cried like a 👶 when Jason Sehorn stepped in front and picked off his buddy Aikman in 1997.🤔 Also, Irvin was a major coke head. Rice, John Taylor, Megatron from Detroit, Cris Carter & Randy Moss = all clean... Conversely, on drugs, alcohol or clean, YOU WILL NEVER SEE ANOTHER L.T. #Period

No they didn't! The Bears lost the previous week to Washington 27-13 in Chicago in the NFC Divisonal Playoff game. Get your facts straight. This game here was Giants 17-0 win over the Redskins that sent the Giants to the Super Bowl.

The two times the Skins really got beat badly in the playoffs under Gibbs were both heavily influenced by the wind (this game and SB 18 in Tampa). This was probably the most explosive Skins offense ever. Schroeder was never the same after this game. Clark was a money player and a HOFer IMO, but this was probably his worst game as a Skin. BTW, this Giants team is probably the most underated team of all time.

Yeah, but the other teams were playing by the same rules and trying too, so that's always been a stupid argument. Pretty sure the 87 49ers will tell you that the Vikings upset was one of their worst losses ever.

They won NFL championships b4 you were ever thought 🤔 about ⁉️😑 all told, more championships than 98% percent of the league🤷‍♂️ That ball to Tyree was epic for the N.F.L., so you're saying that the sport is overrated or else you have no clue about competition at the highest level.

Is Todd Collins winning late in the 2007 season at the Meadowlands some kind of consolation prize for u guys? The Giants still won the Super Bowl, playing all their playoff games on the road.
@bisquik3006
@bisquik3006 14 лет назад
@Jikk Stats? What is this baseball? Irivin made big plays in big games because of his size. Had good hands, but was scared to take a hit, and most of his receptions were him catching the ball, then running out of bounds. Irvin also had minimal success vs. good CB's. I do believe integrity is one of the things they are supposed to judge HOFers on, so if Pete Rose isn't in the baseball HOF, then LT shouldn't be in the football HOF.
@byrongammonbyrongammon9937
@byrongammonbyrongammon9937 3 года назад
Are you high? Pete Rose placed bets on baseball, bets on his own team. Taylor never didn’t anything dirty on the field, never.

Craig fumbled because Eric Howard, the Nose Tackle, completely beat your precious O.L. and knifed through to 💥Smack Craig right in the kisser and L.T. pounced on it...What is "Luck" to you if you were Roger Craig on that play and your bell is still rung when your on the sideline?
@FAITHandLOGIC

You got lucky that Minnesota knocked off San Francisco so you got the next game at home. Second, your replacement players were playing a Dallas team that hadn't played in 3 weeks and probably had 2 practices. I lived in DC for 10 years. Skins fans are the biggest idiots when it comes to football. Every year they're going to the Super Bowl and every year they suck.

@byrongammonbyrongammon9937

Lucky in the 1990 NFC Championship Game? Really? Roger Craig didn’t just fumble, Erik Howard forced that fumble after beating a double team block by Jesse Sapolu and Guy McIntyre to get his helmet on the ball. On the right side of the defense Lawrence Taylor beat two consecutive blocks by Brent Jones and Tom Rathman in order to chase the running play down from the backside. Also, the 49ers couldn’t pick up a rushing first down until there was less than 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The Giants run defense was stellar so it’s not surprising that the Giants’ defense remained rigid at the end of the contest.
