1986 Notre Dame at #2 Alabama (Highlights) 

The 1-2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, under first year head coach Lou Holtz, went to Birmingham, AL to face the 4-0, #2 Alabama Crimson Tide at Legion Field. Entering the game, Alabama had only encountered frustration against Notre Dame. Many Bama fans felt that the Irish had been wrongfully given the 1966 and 1977 national titles in lieu of the Crimson Tide. Moreover, Alabama was 0-4 against Notre Dame all-time and each loss had been a heartbreaker; 23-24 in the 1973 Sugar Bowl, 11-13 in the 1975 Orange Bowl, 18-21 at Notre Dame in 1976, and 0-7 in Birmingham in 1980.
