For the record the oldsmobiles were running all oldsmobile powered 358 oldsmobile NASCAR blocks and converted oldsmobile 350 D/DX oldsmobile diesel blocks converted to gas running engines facts are from oldsmobile in action volume magazines made by Peterson publishing by hotrod there were 3 mags racing time line 1976-1992 and yes I am a Oldsmobile Man
Harold Kinder, the coolest flagman in NASCAR history not afraid of anything. Bobby Allison flew into the fence about 200 feet from him and didn't even flinch. Just going to be waving the flag with a cigarette in my mouth with cars going 200-205 MPH below me.
@@STP43FAN1 I prefer the good ole days wide open each make had thier own distinct body style today the only difference between the manufactures is the stickers are different these new cars suck Nascars decline is entirely self inflicted to much money ruined the sport it became to politically correct to woke to many rules and just bad racing
How was it self inflicted? What was NASCAR supposed to do and not do? The cars look alike because form follows function. It’s time we stop instinctively blaming NASCAR and start looking more credibly at issues
I was born in 80, my dad taped some of the races, we watched a bunch live n I still have all our old vhs tapes. I sure miss the good old days, thanks for the uploads
i grow up watching this race alot my dad taped it when it was on and i was born in 78 but i would watch this race around 89 90 and its what got me into nascar thank you for sharing this. it brings me back to thoses days as a kid
I'm 52 years old both parents have been gone for a while this past race brings back so many memories for me at this time I was only 17 years old and our whole family use to watch these races together along with other relatives man what memories I ain't gonna lie this brings a few happy tears thanks for sharing this.
Richard Petty still competitive here, and especially in '87. This is the golden age of Nascar for me, I started watching a year before I believe, when they showed 4-5 races a year on tv. One was the 600 miler I believe, and Waltrip & Elliott I remember were in the pits for a good chunk of the race (they were dueling for the points lead). It's probably on the long list of videos......
There is NO DOUBT that this was the TOP DOG! The 1986 Talladega 500! YEAH! The cast of characters UNBELIEVABLE and will NEVER be RIVALED again...along with the weather conditions 96 Degrees...85% humidity.....YEAH!.....204MPH.......WOW! You'd say what year was this 2022....UH UH....1986!!
@@dougfredricks2017 I have put down a few names of these criminals that voted with the Democrats on that bill to expose some of them for what they've done and voted on and done to the American people
Full power 675+hp factory sheet metal in shapes you know who made what legendary drivers and the next generation mixing it up. Great race when dega was dega.
It’s s good thing the draft worked this race when it wasn’t that effective the previous three Daytona-Talladega races; there wasn’t much passing those first three. The disappearance of the draft after 1984 was the unsung big story of those times - without it passing was simply too damned hard
I was there when Allison hit the fence. Same area but facing the crowd we were about half way up the grandstand and to the right. Never forget that day !!
This was a decade before my time but it's nice to watch nothing but absolute legend drivers on the track. Not to mention track culture then versus when I was coming up.
I was at that race damn it was hot people was passing out from the heat no shade at all that race use to be in July they moved it to October a few years later cause the heat July in alabama is rough
I understand why they had to go to the restrictor plates but man o’ man the racing was so much better when a car could pass on its own. Now it’s just follow the leader and everyone is afraid to pull out for fear of the draft freight training right by them.
That's because, at one point, Rudd had to get out due to the extreme heat. Wallace had fallen out of the race earlier, but he stepped in for Rudd for the rest of the race. Finished 3rd, I believe
It's an uncut satellite feed. When the cable/over the air broadcast cuts to commercial, the raw feed stays with the race and you get to hear the booth chatter you don't normally hear (plus uninterrupted coverage of the race)
@@SMIFFTV Just curious, but how did obtain the raw satellite footage? Did you record it as it happened or got it from your parents or a friend? I just wanted to know how somebody actually has a full 3-4 hour broadcast uncut of Nascar races. I greatly appreciate you uploading them! I just wanted to know how you got them im your possession :o
Weird to see Jarrett and Squier in golf shirts! CBS must have really taken mercy on them given the heat. This might be the only race I haven't seen the play-by-play guy and color commentators not in suits during the 80's, 90's, 00's and even the 10's...
With all due respect, they really didn't do a very good job at commentating, they didn't explain having two cars get together they can go to the front, II Carline just pushes the first car to the front
Has a few things working against it--mid-80s camera tech, satellite uplink, downlink to a big dish in the yard (or at a broadcast facility), slow speed analog tape recording. Tape stored for many years before getting digitized for RU-vid. Quality lost at each step. Kudos to SMIFFTV for making the effort to bring this to us.
