I remember listening to this game, in my parents front room because back then, we were in the middle of a 3-13 season, and we couldn't sell out any homes games and it was blacked out. Summerall was great as always.
This was actually the strike shortened season in 1987. The Cowboys won their last 2 games to finish off the season with a below par, but respectable 7-8 record. The following season would be 3-13 and Tom Landry's last as a Dallas Cowboys coach.
I remember this game we were over my uncles watched the game of course we were all pissed but we all watched the very first WWF(E) SummerSlam on PPV afterwards
I always feel this MIN/DAL Thanksgiving Game game gets overshadowed by 1998. Maybe it didn’t have a Randy Moss Type standout, but it was just as exciting
I think this was the better game. The boys were never really in the 1998 game bringing the lead within 10 points on 2 occasions but they never had it tied like in this game.
And there was more at stake for both teams as far as playoff spots. In '98 the Vikings had all but run away with their division, and really faced no pressure about a playoff spot. Not the case in this game where both Dallas and MN left it all on the field, knowing that a loss in this game would determine if they would get in or not.
Sadly, as Cowboys fan, this game was hard to take. First LOVE how Renfro did not take any shit from Joey Browner. Also a hero of mine, Danny White, was in tears in the locker room after the game because he knew his pick cost them the game. After the game I went outside and played football with my friends and whenI I went over the middle caught the ball but got my fist concussion. Darrin Nelson, Ike Holt, Jesse Solomon were all part of the Walker trade. Nelson refused to play for the Cowboys so fuck him.
Nelson was more or less on the outs in MN, fighting with Mgmt over his contract. And was never really forgiven for dropping the pass from Wilson in the NFC Championship.
Joey Browner? He was soon Forgotten. But the Cowboys raped the Vikings in 1989 and went on to be the team of the 90s with 3 Super bowls. Darrin Nelson? Whos That? The boys instead drafted an "Insignificant" man named Emmitt, who went on to be a legend and rushing leader of the NFL. The Vikings were younger and better than Dallas in 1987....but that would soon change.
@@deanladue3151 The vikings were supposed to be the next power team. Especially when they upset the saints and niners in 87. They then peaked out at 11-5 in 1988 but fell short of glory and thier spike was all but over. They never had a time. No one cared about them.
@@ricktheitalianrebel6687 they'd been building that team since '85, when they brought in some high caliber talent from the USFL along with some great draft picks from '85-'87. The '88 team was probably even better than the '87 playoff team. But two critical losses to SF and Green Bay sealed their fate.
@@deanladue3151 They just never got to where they were supposed to go. They lost to the Niners in blowouts in 88 and 89 in the playoffs, and then flopped to 6-10 in 1990 and it was over so quick. They let Dallas destroy their future with Walker in 89 and all they attempted to build went to the shitter real fast. Part of the issueis that they never had a SB calibre QB. They forgot to build on that.
