I remember seeing this in the arcades before 16bit consoles hit the market. It was mind blowing. I couldn't believe it was real.

Agreed, I've always been fascinated by the look of these old fake 3D games.

Just one problem, what qualifies as 'not fake' 3D? Yu Suzuki engineered these games around three axis geometry, and in principle the scaling isn't any less "3D" than other early texture mapping tech. It's all just degrees of illusion in the end.

True, true. But this doesn't qualify by what is typically understood to be "true 3D". It doesn't use polygonal, texture mapped models, for a start.

polygons don't need to texture mapped to be 'true 3D' btw...

stuff like these used to blow my mind when seen them running in the arcades when I used to go out hanging with my friends as a kid then return home and play my Sega Genesis and I kinda get annoyed that the graphics are nothing like the stuff seen in the arcades.

Nice! I played it on the 3DS as part of Sega 3D Classics Collection.
