Hahaha! What a rivalry! I wish they still made commercials like that today! I would never skip them. (Except for the annoying liberty mutual commercials)
Did you guy's hear about chevy recently? The government is forcing them to re-do their weight towing claim testing. when they tested the truck originally they tested without bumbers, backseats, half gallon of fuel, no tailgate and no spare tire. :p
I love the closeup of the Ford's front end jumping up. That shot was from the first one and every commercial after they just zoomed in so you cant see the body of the old truck. Still looks bad ass, though.
Still got a 1981 F-250 online 6. Was my grandpas, then my uncles, and now mine. Its the original everything with a 4speed and Dana axles. Had a 1996 Dodge 2500 v 10 and the ignition went out 7 times. Had to return to the Ford everytime. Just had it overhauled engine to the axles and it still running best truck I've ever had.
Had a 87 with the I6 and 5 speed tranny, 4X4. Loved that truck. That 6 was perfect for me. Had all the torque I needed and got good gas mileage. It would rival any of the modern engines today for dependability and mileage. It died of frame damage. Had a load of firewood and the rear spring perches broke and pierced the bed. So much frame rot it wasnt worth fixing. The drivetrain was still good tho. Sold it all and bought another F150. it was a 93. It was so bad I bought a Chevy and been driving 1 ever since. Still wish I had that ole 87 tho.
Certainly glad I ain't one sided, I love both Chevy and Ford, they both make fantastic trucks. That goes for Dodge as well. In my opinion though I think the 87 Chevy was tougher than the 88 Chevy.
Aerodynamic? The 80s Fords, Chevys, Dodges were all bricks back then. Lol. I also love reading all the juvenile comments on videos like these "chevys suck" "ford is garbage" "dodge is crap". There is nothing wrong with having pride in your truck, but anyone that makes stupid comments like those are not car or truck guys or real gearheads.
There is a difference in frame, performance and how reliable they become I work for ford doesn't mean I like then cause I really don't there cars look nice but let's just say they make me money in the shop never heard of dodge and chevy having recalls
Zackary Wilson I think I do my research just fine I'm a mechanic not yet a technician if you exactly what I'm talking about I think I've seen alot of vehicles coming in low miles with recall and transmission problem without recalls basically on the focus and Fiesta and minor shit on other vehicle I think a customer wants to service the vehicle when it needs to be service not fixed I've had toyota and nothing I know people with dodge and barely any recalls ford has an awesome concept of what they want to come out with but not think it through well enough so they become shit alright douche
Christopher Rubines I won't deny with you on those models I'm just saying every company has recalls, I'm not oblivious to the recall rate on Ford but your earlier comment is stating Chevy and dodge never have recalls that's a joke Chevy is right behind Ford on recalls and just killed people last year with their ignition issue. EVERY manufacturer has recalls.
Wow I remember seeing this a long time ago when I was young kid I sometime thought about this commercial of how it went, thank you fr sharing:) thought I never see this again
Ford owners be like "Chevy sucks!! screw Chevy!!" Chevy owners be like "Ford sucks!! screw Ford!!" Dodge owners be like "Is the popcorn ready? the fight is just getting started."
Dodge did one of these as well with the Dodge hauling the Ford and Chevy up a mountain of rocks and then up a mountain of logs the size of telephone poles. Same kind of thing, one sideways in the bed and the other on a tow bar behind. I've been trying to find that commercial for a while now. Wish it was on this video, it would have made it complete!
It's so wild for me to hear a 7.5 engine referred to it like it's big, when even my little coupe came stock with an 8.2 and even when they had a smaller engine years earlier, it was still a 7.7.
Didn't get much bigger in terms of any gasser honestly. I drove a 488 Chevy (8.1) when working for GM but besides the newest Viper's 8.4, there wasn't anything bigger in a "regular" gasser truck. Anything in the 9-13 litre range was always diesel.
@@samnangchea5025 well, that's not even remotely true, now is it? You say they never made engines of that size, and yet my little aforementioned coupe has a factory base 8.2, my daily-driver has an 8.3, and one of my trucks had a 9.2, and they're all gas engines. I also don't believe you ever worked for General Motors, seeing as that Truck is a GMC, so you should be familiar with the company, if you worked for General Motors.
@@samnangchea5025 I don't own a DeVille. Bro, are you on drugs? Also, a DeVille is a small car anyhow, especially after '84. I mention a 9.2 litre truck, and you somehow think that means "Cadillac DeVille"? Maybe you'll read through this after you're sober and get a good laugh at yourself.
@@samnangchea5025 LOL bro you tried. Ain't nobody but you talking about devilles and how TF you gonna say there's no such thing as a gas engine over 9 liters in a reply to a comment about a truck with a gas engine over 9 liters.
When I was growing up, I actually liked the 1987 F Series more than the 1988 C/K. By the late 1990s, though, I liked the C/K and Silverado trucks better. Well, that was mainly for overall design.
my granddad bought a 72 chevy truck brand new to use as a farm truck. 2 motors later and over 1,000,000 miles... its still running strong. you could say.. "its like a rock"
Remember. We all might bicker about which truck is better, but in the end, every truck is great for a different reason. Except for the Honda Ridgeline. It's just a Honda Pilot with a bed.
Base model truck back then was the Custom. Alot of people converted these fuel injected engines to carb, and some from carb to fuelly. Really easy to do on those older EFI Fords.
I love how anytime a video like this gets posted, everyone has an opinion. Then they start throwing "rocks" at each other. In my opinion, it's the one that works at the time I need it to. And as long as you take care of it, it will. Be it Dodge, Ford, Chevy, GMC, Toyota, Nissan, whatever, they each have their pros and cons.
Did you watch the end of the video where the Chevy is pulling the 3 trucks and the pile of rock, lol. I guess the only thing that comes close recently is the Toyota Tundra commercial where it tows the space shuttle. For short distances on level pavement, trucks can far exceed their towing capacity for demonstration purposes. I'm sure there's some disclaimer that basically tells you that your truck really isn't designed to do this and if you do and destroy your transmission or rear end, the dealer isn't going to fix it.
No manufacturer is immune to the idea of using tricks. Since I used to pull-start my old cabover Peterbilt, with a loaded bulk trailer, with a mid-80s S10 (hey... those batteries ain't cheap), not such a big deal. Let 'em have their dog-n-pony show, and some folks have made their respective marques into a sort of religion anyway.
In reality, all the trucks then as they are now are pretty much equal. It comes down to personal preference as to what you buy. No one truck does any one thing much better than the rest. One has the best fuel economy but not by much. One is cheaper, but not by much. One tows the most, but not by much. On and on. If you're a Ford man, you buy a Ford, a Chevy man buys a Chevy, Dodge man buys a Dodge, etc.
@@lynndempsey4096 there is not a nickels worth of difference between Ford and Chevrolet I have owned several of both brands they all have their problems and good qualities it narrows down to preference and opinion
Heck yeah, had the same truck, my favorite truck I've owned, the 460 with the carb was satisfying for some reason, and it got better mileage than my current 97 f250 hd, it only gets 6mpg around town.
@jeffellison8427 The 87 F350 CCLB we had was an absolute tank. It would pull a house down with 4:10s and a C6 combo. Sure miss that family pickup, it's been 20 years.
i drive a 88 body style k2500.Get 9-10mpg. Dont care. Just funny they even bothered mentioning aerodynamics like they knew anything about it back then.
95% of all service vehicles(police cars, paramedics, electric, gas, sewage and construction company's etc) in the continental united states are fords for a reason, they are simply the best. we have a fleet of fords at my job all with 200,000 miles up to 600,000 miles on them running beautifully.
All of my cities heavy duty vehicles are old GM pickups. Our ambulance is a Chevy Van. Our sergeants have GMT-900 Tahoes, and some cops get GMT-800 tahoes. The only ford we have are the sheriff cars which are crown vics.
+BUILT FORD TOUGH why? Caltrans uses the same trucks. If those trucks can rack up all those miles than shit, i want one too. Thats all you see here in socal, are old GM trucks
My thoughts exactly. The Ford was obviously REAL footage of a fucking MONSTER Ford towing other wannabes up a damn rocky hill. That chevy commercial was a joke.
It was that commercial that helped my family decide in 87 to buy an F-250 with (at that time) the largest V8 available in a pickup . (A 460) You know what? That pickup is now mine, it's not in the shop and it pulls anything I put behind it . Yes the gas mileage is awful . But it does it's work using simple mechanicals and is long paid for . Where are all the other competing trucks from that era ? I sure don't see them around like I see the trucks like mine .
Didn't even think about the trailer being under its own power at the end. Yes it looked fake because it apparently was. Those damn marketing people, no truth in advertising. The Ford was hauling and towing 3 truck bodies most likely with no engine or transmission in them so it wasn't really that impressive either. A new(insert your favorite truck) could probably tow 10 trucks like that.
I own an aerodynamic Ford F-250, same year and engine as the truck in the commercial. It gets 8 miles per gallon, still tows my 30 foot travel trailer with ease, everything (including the a.c.) works, and has over 205k miles on it, with zero rust . Don't tell me that a non-Ford product from that era is somehow better . I know better . You Dodge guys couldn't compete at that time because the largest engine you could get was a 360. (You also had no diesel option yet) , You GM guys (in 1987 and 1988) couldn't get the 454 in the new body style (You had do buy an old body style Suburban or 3500 for that, same goes for your Diesel option) . So even if the Ford were only towing truck bodies, at least it was honestly towing something .
Julio Moreno I think the onstar, smooth dash curves, radio, cruise control, a/c, tachometer, speedometer that goes past 85mph, and overdrive button on the shifter give it away.
I know it wasn’t around at the time, but I’m sure a 7.3 Powerstroke could haul the truck hauling the mountain with the ford hauling the Chevy, Dodge, and GMC. On top of that, the 7.3 Powerstroke was on the same platform as that Ford.
I special ordered an 88 f150 4x4 custom with the new 351 injected engine, c6 automatic with 3:55 gears 8.75 rear ls and ls in the front too. The engine was strong as was the tranny and read end. I was too light in the rear and the gauges didn't work (oil pressure and sometimes the fuel gauge). It had dual tanks (needed them). I hated the independent front suspension and the truck was so light that it bounced all over the road. It cost a tad over $16K, had no carpet, no power windows or seats. I never broke anything and I rode it hard.
I love how the Chevy guys talk shit on the fords but there always working on there's! lol Mine lasted from 87 till now with the original drive train and 6.9 diesel. Now the only reason i'm working on it is because its getting restored. Same as in the video.
Lol a 6.9 IDI F250 is literally about too slow and gutless to self destruct. I'm sure a 460 with two dead cylinders running 3 quarts low pulling a loaded trailer would fly past an unloaded 6.9 uphill.
@Warren probably because there are more Chevy trucks still on the road then there are Fords. They basically sell neck-and-neck between GM and Chevy. But go out and try to find a 73 through 87 Ford truck still on the road, much less working everyday. You can find a square body Chevrolet every single day of the week, still out there working. You're lucky if you still find a Ford from the mid-90s
@Warren was gonna say, we have an 86 250 351m, an 85 bronco i6, and an 87 ranger ST-X 2.9L. Haven't seen many chevys that aren't half dead and rotted to shit sitting on stands around here.
i think its funny how people are argueing over ford/ chevy when we all know that most of them are like 14 and havent even driven a car yet... im a diehard ford guy but chevys are good to. gm took bail out money not ford, " ford, not built with your tax dollars"
You know why people trust Ford more than Chevy? Because even though Ford shows off, Chevy shows off more to the point where its like screamin' to the world, "My *bleep* is bigger!" Guess what Chevy...people don't like show offs and get annoyed with them fast. This is why Ford will always be America's truck.
th3shameless they also completely unfairly conducted those tests and nearly all of their "real people not actors" are fukin actors. but I can't defend the fact that the new ford trucks AND Chevy trucks are fukin garbage
Ferd may be able to haul a whale, that just ate a horse, that was as big as a house....but chevy will haul the the road you're driving on, while you're driving on it...........FACE
Chanze Sexton They were real truck bodies, most likely with no engine or transmission or probably even any interior in them either. Regular cab short bed too. So the Ford wasn't working nearly as hard as the ad would have you believe. Someone else mentioned that the mountain the chevy was pulling was actually powered and was simply following the truck. Its all marketing bs.
Greg Rowe I know thats why I said what I said. The 90's like a rock commercials are probably legit. I bet none of the trucks made it to the showroom but it would seem kinda hard to fake those to me.
Nothing in these commercial is true, they always do this. The only universal truth is what the manual said you could do, which is funny, because the manual has to abide law (for fear of lawsuits). Once you bought the truck, you signed your papers, it's your problem if you go mental on it.
"aerodynamic ford truck" never! I'm guessing they tried to do what that ford did using a chevy and it couldn't do it, so they were like well we'll just use movie magic and turn it into a joke
They both dated Toyota at the same same time she got mad about all the jealousy and left to marry the class nerd, dodge. Now her and dodge Have twins Nissan and Datsun.
I'm an all Chevrolet guy and I tried to be cool with the dodge ram and ford guys but Ford just keeps annoying us how strong they are but atleast we are not made aloft aluminum
I got you all beat, 86 scottsdale 6.2. It will pull anything you hook to it and get 28mpg. Of course 0-60 is about 28sec which is why my daily driver is a 99 f250 7.3. The scottsdale does ride better though, and has a dump bed.
definately true, but the 7.5 460 engine has alot of torque like the 7.3 idi. Then again you only get like 10 mpg in the 460 and you should get around 18 mpg with the idi
