This car is NOT a 930, the 930 name refers to the turbo wide body cars, this is N/A narrow body car. No hate, it’s still awesome.

I think the Wikipedia page erroneously links to the "930" as the model that came before the 964 model 911, even though the 930 link goes to the page for the turbocharged variant... So would Porsche fans consider this model just a late version of the first-generation 911 then with no specific model designation? 🙂 Often the mention of "911SC" would conjour up the image of a Porsche 911 that looks like the tested one, but this regular Carrera supersedes the SC, right (with 3.2 engine instead of the 3.0 of the SC)?

There's a lot of 930 parts in the Carrera 3.2 and that causes confusion. This Carrera 3.2 actually has a 930/25 engine. When Porsche engineers were working on a design they worked under a unique 3 digit code and the 930 parts were what came out of the turbo project. The naturally aspirated cars got many of the strong parts developed for the turbo but they used one part number for both like the engine cases. Other original parts going back to the original drawings still use "901". But most for the G body use 911 as the part prefix. Although I recall running into parts that were developed for the 928 and 944 when ordering for my own '89 3.2. Porsche stretched their parts across lines as best as they could being a small company at the time.

A '87 911 Turbo drove past me while I was going to the gas station in my neighborhood. Has to be the craziest car I've seen beside a brand new. Maybach with paper plates lol. Edit: I live in New Orleans by the way, car culture here is....interesting. Mostly ragged out Infinitis and loud LS3s lol

Ya know what car shares similar elements with the classic 911?.... the 1st-gen RX-7!! Unique engine? Check! Tachometer in the center? Check! Manual long-throw gear shift? Check! Plaid seat option? Check! Round 7-inch headlamps? Check! Rear-wheel drive? Check! Pre-80s? Check! Weber-friendly? Check! Driver-focused? Check!

I've always loved this car. When I was a kid, a neighbor had a 1976 Turbo Carrera and he took me for a ride and it was the best ride ever. He took it on the freeway, shifted into 2nd gear at 55 mph and the turbo kicked in....HARD! Thanks for reviewing this classic.

Not a 930, 930 specifically refers to the Turbo model.

Plus the 930 has a four speed gearbox. The Carrera has the G50 5 speed transmission.
@LifeSizePotato
@LifeSizePotato Год назад
@@bngr_bngr The 1989 930 also had the G50 but yeah, the vast majority of 930s only had a 4-speed.
@bngr_bngr
@bngr_bngr Год назад
@@LifeSizePotato it was a G50-50, it was more durable than the G50 in the Carrera.

The 1960's/1970's origin of the vehicle are definitely evident in how the controls/switches are randomly scattered around the cabin! 🙂

Porsche has never made a bad-driving 911. AC was still optional on many cars in the 80s and would be a separately fitted add-on with separate controls. Fun fact: the wipers park in front of the driver so that the first wipe clears the driver's view faster. Same reason why the ignition is on the left, because racecar. I'm partial to the early air-cooled 911s with their cleaner, simpler design. The ducktail and body-colored impact bumpers are cool in their own right though. This one just looks so right. The 911 and the Jeep CJ/Wranger are probably the best examples of gradual automotive evolution.

The 87 came stock with AC. My Carrera went down to 32 degrees.

Hey man, loved the video, I've got a soft spot for these aircooled 911s 😀 dream 2 car garage would be a singer DLS and R32 GTR fss Had a suggestion for your video format! Would be great to see your driving impressions interspersed with the info about interior, exterior, engine, history etc kinda like how Road & Track, Hagerty format their videos. Feel like this must help with viewer retention etc as well but yeh just my two cents :) Been subbed for a few months now and loving your personality man! Also cool to see cars we don't get here! Much love from the UK ☺

05:37 You SHOULD own one someday. They are not cheap and the parts arent cheap but they are easy to work on and there is no other driving experience like it. Plus there is plenty of DIY support out there. 😉

Nice visuals of a beautiful car; but you really need to research your facts better. 930? 944 replacing 911 (try 928), loose credibility.
