The wonderful Tony Hart creates a beautiful rendering of Stonehenge in under four minutes, using chalk pastels and a thick marker pen.
Is there anything quite so satisfying as watching a master at work?

The BBC should create a series for BBC4 with short clips of Tony creating his pictures especially with the Bob Ross episodes proving so popular. Very soothing voice that really takes me back and his pictures look a bit easier to have a go at although that's probably a reflection of how good he was

He really was a unique sort of presenter: never patronising, never talked down to his audience, knew art should and could be fun and made you want to do it out of school. An old school giant of a man - a stroke robbed him of his ability to draw, a terribly cruel twist of fate. Such a good man.

Tony Hart inspired my dad when dad met him in the late 1960s. When I was old enough, and his show was running on kid's TV, my dad encouraged me to watch it and learn from him. He had a talent for making things simple and fun, and I wished he was my art teacher at school sometimes! RIP Tony.

Tony's voice reminds me of the cosiness of coming home after school and falling asleep on the sofa until I'd hear the equally nostalgic sound of "Tea's ready!" from my Mum.

Such a talented guy, a true TV legend of my childhood... and one without any scandal or disgrace! which is refreshing to see. Always enjoyed coming home from school and watching the BBC line up of kids TV... Jackanory, Blue Peter, Crackerjack, Captain Caveman.... even John Craven's newsround was entertaining! where's that time machine?... i'd love to go back just for a day to see if it really was better than today!..i'm sure it was, even the Cadbury Creme eggs seemed to be bigger than my head!

I often say I wish I had a time machine to take me back to the 60's and 70's, life was much nicer, and yes cadbury's creme eggs and a lot of other things were bigger, now everything keeps getting smaller but the price gets bigger.

Tony Hart was a class act. I loved watching Hart Beat when I was a child. I just wish my own children had something as good as this. Tony Hart created simple, but lovely pieces of art, while explaining interesting things like how pastels are made. Compare this to the bloody awful ‘Mr Maker’! There’s been a real dumbing down with children’s television.
