i was born in 1988 during the olympics and when i was a kid i had only heard about these old gymnastics and read about them in my dad´s olympic book. thank you so much for giving us the younger generation the chance to see gymnastics like the are supposed to be and not robotic like they are today
I loved these games. The Romanian team was the dream team of our sport. Was never a huge fan of shushonouva; in fact, i think i cried when she edged out silivas. Anyway, i hated her bars, but watching thia now??? Mad respect for Elena. Her legs were perfect. Not 1 break in form. Glued together as elfi would say. Lol
I love the first bar gymnast from Canada when she does the 1 and half twist from high to low bar. That was awesome to watch. I wish they would do that nowadays.
It was right there. Shushunova led Silivas with a carry-over score .05 higher. But it was after the bars Elena went from leading by .05 to trailing by .05. The rest of the competition was a case of Shushunova gaining back what she lost. And it wasn't going to be easy. But she did it!
I love to watch videos of these games. I do feel, however, that too many 10.0's were given at these games. I saw several sets that were given a perfect score, but still had visible errors in them.
Andrea Jimenez yup. Dagmar Kirsten's bars immediately come to mind. If u remember, i think we only saw 1 in 92. I'd have to look ir up to be sure, but i clearly remember the commentators mentioning the lack of 10s compared to seoul.
1. I would have just given Silivas the gold when she arrived at the airport. Regardless of anything, she was just hands down, the best gymnast in the world at that time. 2. For as much flack as they catch, these gymnasts had to be so much stronger on bars because it was imposiible to get the swing generated these days..and some of them are doing simultaneous releases after just a kip or giant.
This is the second time that they confused Laschenova with Boginskaya saying that Laschenova was from Minsk Belarus. Laschenova was from Latvia whereas Bogi was from Minsk. They also stated this incorrectly during the team final.
How is that possible that Laschenova so messed this AA? She was consistent, lovely, superb during her short carrier and the most important competition - Olympic AA - was so weak from her side...
Its good to see them starting from the high bar and then going to the low bar. you hardley see it anymore. now you see them go over the low bar to the high bar. And why dont any of the gymnast do the 1.5 bail like lori strong? ive never seen it till now.ANY BODY KNOW WHY?
Ksenia Semenova's deltchev is actually way better than the ones competed here. The ones competed here are more like dodgy half turns on the bar into some sort of front somersault, instead of making the half twist after releasing the bar. That's why most gymnasts do Geingers, because they're less likely to be deducted since there's no chance of on bar turning.
i am really disapointed !! I had never seen anyone do the 11/2 swing over to the low bar, and i was an elite gymnast in 1998 and that was the skill i was working on before i shattered both of my ankles on a full in on floor, i had actually planned to compete in the next national meet, and i thougt it had never been competed! well i guess that is how it goes though!
Does anybody know if there is a deduction for waving your arms around , fighting to stick a landing? I have always wondered that, i know when i was an elite gymnast in 1998-99, my coaches always told me that there is a deduction for waving your arms around, whether or not you stick the landing. I have been watching some of these clips, and i have seen some fighting for the landings, but they still get a perfect score? How is that possible?
They don't HAVE to do inverts at all....it's up to the coach and also what the gymnasts talent allows...if the gymnast has the shoulder strength and flexibility, then by all means, put it in there....but, it's not mandatory

She wasn't robbed...they were neck and neck all the way. Shoushonova edged her out on vault. She had a superior vault. Silivas was great on all three event but unfortunately wasn't a great vaulter.
