The '88 Redskins and Cowboys were two teams in transition. The Redskins were wrestling with a post-Super Bowl slump while juggling quarterbacks and seeking consistency at running back. The Cowboys were about to burn it to the ground and start all over.
Mark Rypien notched his first NFL win as the Redskins beat the Cowboys for the fourth straight time (three straight in Dallas). Kelvin Bryant sparkled with 200 combined rushing/receiving yards and three touchdowns. But the real stars of this game were the Redskins defense that forced 5 turnovers, leaving Rypien and the offense a short field on which to make quick work of the Cowboys.
This would be the last Gibbs-Landry match-up at Texas Stadium in what would be the final season of Landry's historic coaching run in Dallas. With Pat Summerall and John Madden on the call, we bid farewell to Coach Landry who, in his coat, tie and fedora, will be forever remembered as the portrait of class.
Remastered painstakingly from VHS to digital with a fine-tooth comb (... that makes no sense.)
