And they were 1 match away from 4 consecutive finals but edberg lost to Stich in the semis in 91! And Edberg didn't lose his serve once, losing 4-6,7-6,7-6,7-6
@loganmoodley1515 and in 92, they played the men's doubles final out on the old court no 1 on Monday because of rain. Mcenroe and Michael Stich won the title 19-17 in the 5th as I remember. It was Mcenroe's last ever match at Wimbledon
They are great champions and very fun to watch more than even the newer generation but on a personal level both are very arrogant, it happened where I saw both of them refusing to take pictures with fans at Wimbledon 2019. Furthermore actually I saw Becker shout at a fan refusing to take a picture, what’s funny legends bigger than them like Federer and Nadal I saw them very willing to take pictures with anyone especially Nadal. I am saying this because it’s the truth that I saw with my own eyes
Some tennis fans love the athleticism and touch of the great serve and volleyers. Back then we also had a diversity of styles with counterpunchers, aggressive baselines, and serve and volleyers. I loved seeing the contrast of playing styles. I miss it
Back in the day, grass was dominated by S&V players (since the grass was faster, it had more bad bounces, and the strings could not generate the absurd topspin they can today), clay was dominated by baseliners (since it was slow as fuck and S&V was super difficult), and hard court was where they could all meet on equal footing. This meant that you had specialists in both camps as well as all-rounders (e.g. Wilander and Borg). It was so much better imo than today where everyone plays the same baseline game.
