The first thing about the #Chrysler #LeBaron #convertible that catches the attention is the beautiful styling of the car. It’s an exceptionally sleek car, designed during a time that cars were aggressively square and boxy. Despite being built on a variant of the K platform, it looks nothing like Chrysler’s K-cars. The styling is subtle and the body has European dimensions. The hideaway headlamps create a fully flush front.
Here you go, you wanted to see that huh! Chrysler’s signature chrome waterfall grille is a beautiful styling clue that they should’ve kept in their current styling. The rear of the LeBaron has totally eighties full-width tail-lamps with black striping. Tail lamps cannot get more eighties than this! Before you guys start complaining in the comments about having a hitch on a convertible, it works great for pulling your camper trailer. This LeBaron features Chrysler’s early 2.2 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine paired to a 3-speed automatic which provides plenty of torque to pull a trailer or to drive like an wildman. We’d wish it would have an overdrive gear though to improve gas mileage.
The front-wheel-drive LeBaron has crisp steering and comfortable suspension, not too soft and not too stiff. It has European-style deep bucket seats, which are comfortable overall but lack lower back support. They are 6-way adjustable and together with the tilting steering wheel, provided plenty of room and a good seating position for our 6’8 presenter. Now this is really a 2+2 seater, the backseat does fit 2 more people, but you’d probably prefer to seat just one sideways. Despite that, the LeBaron treats the rear passengers with floor mats and even their own ashtrays.
The luxury continues with this premium infinity sound system; it features 4 active speakers plus two separate tweeters in the dash. Imagine this: Each woofer has its own electronically equalized amplifier, specifically tuned for the car. This one has a hand-built auxiliary plug using the connector for the optional CD player at the back of the radio.
All Chrysler LeBaron convertibles featured a power vinyl top with a glass window, which folds into the trunk automatically and can be covered with a leather boot cover. The LeBaron furthermore features power heated mirrors and four power windows. Yes, four. By the way, why do you need heated mirrors on a car that's meant to be driven during sunny summer days? Then again, it has illuminated sun visors too, so whatever. When you're done staring at how sexy you look in this sleek convertible, you can pay some attention to how nicely crafted the interior is. Chrome handles and Pentastar emblems adorn the doors, lots of wood grain surfaces and all the other surfaces are padded which makes them feel soft and pleasant.
Also handy is the remote gas filler door release as well as the illuminated glove box so you can find your sunglasses.
If you do step out of the car however, you'll notice these very fine 16" aluminum lace wheels. This example also sports a trunk rack for extra cargo capacity on top of the trunk. This truly comes in handy because the convertible top takes in half the space in the trunk.
Chrysler applied the principle of "barn door engineering" well on their LeBarons. Most of the finishes in the interior are either printed or molded on aluminum and steel. It has thick sheet metal and glass and the Chrysler 2 liter 4 cylinders are known to be bullet-proof. We couldn't tell you how many miles are on this one though, since the odometer is broken.
The LeBaron was available with an optional digital dashboard, which this one doesn't have. It does have a digital trip computer though, which shows average and instant fuel economy, distance to empty, engine time and trip distances. And did I mention the headlamps have a follow-me-home feature? They will stay on for two minutes after you shut down the engine to illuminate the path to your house after an enjoyable trip in this magnificent convertible. And don’t forget to put that top back up.

Yes, a gorgeous feature! They removed those in the later facelift (94-95 iirc). That change made the LeBaron lose its unique sleek looks and made the front look way less handsome.

Beauty! My baby(exact same ) seems to have the same problem on the rear right window as yours is not down! Have you figured out how to fix the window yet! Super surious it's actually starting to affect the convertible tops contact when closing😬
@LCR
@LCR 4 года назад
Yes, actually that window has been fixed before but we used the same motor so it gave up again after a few weeks. Most of the time they break because of water damage. There are small drain tubes back there that can get clogged. So before you start your repair, make sure those drains aren't clogged so it won't happen again. To repair the power window, you'll need to remove the back seat. Get the bottom out, then tilt the back forward. That way you can reach the motor. Then take the window motor out there. Most of the time it's stuck because of rust. I would recommend replacing the motor, but you can loosen it up and protect it with grease. Often it'll still work that way but no idea for how long.

@madmanmapper
@madmanmapper Год назад
@@LCR I suppose I've done it enough that I can do it quickly. Actually, you know what? Now that I think about it... for 1992 and up, the rear seat design changes and it's much easier to remove. Remove the bottom cushion, and two screws for the back cushion, and it pulls down and out. The prior years the back cushion is bolted to the trim panels and very hard to access the screws. I only know because I've done it on junkyard cars. I've only owned a 92 and a 93 (and briefly a 91).

My first car, which I still drive, is a 1991 lebanon that sat in a garage for 15 years. Didn't have a roof, any rubber rotted, had wasps nests inside all the vents. First road trip it caught on fire because their was a hole in the muffler that pumped hot air into the trunk for a few hours. Its a terrible car that breaks down on me all the time and the lights don't work and can't find replacement parts. Despite that I love her to death ad couldn't have had a cooler first car.
@LCR
@LCR 4 года назад
Haha amazing story! I think that if you would give it a big tuneup and replace all the rubber hoses, etc, it may become more reliable again. A great source for replacement parts is rockauto.com or your local junkyard. Great that you are still driving it! For how long have you had it?

@LCR
@LCR 6 месяцев назад
They did. You can repair them, though. The issue is that the water drains get clogged and then rust seizes up the window motors. Keeping the car inside and making sure those drains aren't clogged is important to keep those windows working.

@LCR
@LCR 2 года назад
The 3 liter feels more snappy, more responsive and it has more power in lower RPMs. However, the 4 cylinder 2.2 turbo and 2.5 NA are more reliable than the 3 liter V6. The 2.2 turbo with intercooler is much faster than the 3 liter, but the 2.5 NA is a lot slower.

HAHAHA. 177 horsepower? This isn't a Shelby, brother. 1989 featured what was still referred to as the "Turbo 1" engine, which was updated in 1988 with a blow-through throttle body, one-piece intake manifold and multi-point injection. Still, this engine was only rated at 146 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. The specs you've quoted on-screen are for the Intercooled "Turbo 2" engine, which was specific to Shelby cars. These feature a unique, 2-piece intake manifold, an air-to-air intercooler and increased turbo boost. THESE engines are rated at 175hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. HOWEVER, they were never available in the Lebaron
@LCR
@LCR Год назад
The LeBaron indeed didn't have a Shelby version available. Instead, the Turbo II was used in the Chrysler LeBaron GTC. What you see in the car in the video is a Turbo II engine, although that one has the intercooler removed.

Is this car reliable?
@LCR
@LCR 4 года назад
It's 30 years old by now, so it will need some extra care. But the 2.5 liter Chrysler engine paired to the 3 speed is a reliable combination. The 4 speed with the V6 can have issues.
@trianglediamond2629
@trianglediamond2629 4 года назад
@@LCR Thx for this quick reply ☺ What are the issues on the V6?
@LCR
@LCR 4 года назад
You're most welcome! The V6 is reliable but the 4 speed automatic transmission can be problematic. If not given oil and filter changes on time, they often break requiring an entire rebuild. And even with proper maintenance they have reliability issues. The 3-speed and 4-cylinders are less refined but basically bullet proof. The only thing you have to be careful with are the turbos. When properly driven (low rpms when cold, cool down before shutting them off, etc) they hold up well. But many people don't have the patience these days... The 2.5 N/A is slow but you won't have any issues with those.
