Mike Pritchard is a forgotten man and probably the most amazing player to play at Colorado... he proved it 4real the next year when they won the title...
I believe this was the best CU team of all time. This was their only close game that entire regular season, they were just not primed for the big stage of the orange bowl.
Let's face it tho, Notre Dame was off a national title with a loaded team that year. A lot of people thought that they should've been champs and not Miami.
@@ryanyoung2678 What did not make sense was that Miami accepted a Sugar Bowl bid instead of staying home to play Colorado for the National Championship.
This is such a great watch! As someone who was born in 1982 I was "just old enough" to watch and appreciate Colorado's rise to national prominence. The fact I am a lifelong ND fan only adds to the connection with the Buffs around this time. As it is, I loved it when Colorado was a true national player. The Buffs and Kansas State were always, and still to this day, the Big 8/12 teams (former in CU's case) I pull for. Their games against Nebraska were must watch events, Folsom Field is an incredible place for a big game, the setting overall is awesome, Ralphe, the uniforms etc. The foundation is there but the administration seems extremely apathetic towards football at this point....
The Gospel According to Mac was riveting and has me fascinated by 80s/90s Colorado. Amazing how Bill McCartney took a garbage program and turned it into a powerhouse and Champion loaded with NFL talent. Manufactured a rivalry with Nebraska and designed one of the all time classic uniforms...a program that then dropped off after he resigned and left coaching for good.
Wow, forgot about Gdowski... at one point he had the record for most yards per game by a Nebraska player. He was an astounding talent that came into the season unheralded and broke a bunch of records. While many of those records were broken by others over time, I don't think anyone broke as many in one season as he did. His wikipedia page is woeful, I'm going to work on it tonite.
Remember in an option offense you can be playing defense well and on the next play you make a mistake and bam six points. A lot of defensive coordinators say playing vs an option offense is one of the most difficult offenses to play against
