Excellent video. Very, very, helpful. He says 3/16 grip and 1/8 diameter rivet. It is just the opposite. 1/8 grip by 3/16 diameter. And the 1990-1993 passenger door panel has a hidden screw under the window switch. The window switch can be removed with two small screwdrivers. Gently pry the switch out of the door panel. In the hole where the switch was should be a 7-mm screw. This screw goes into a bracket that is held with a screw to the door panel. Be sure to check this bracket before reinstalling the door panel. Many brackets are missing or loose. This is also a good indication if the door panel was removed previously. It is a good idea to put this screw back in place. You can capture the screw in a 7-mm socket with some masking tape or electrical tape. This makes installing the screw in the recess much easier.

I double checked with Jeff and he did use 3/16 grip and 1/8 diameter rivet. He also uses a 5/32 drill bit to drill out the old rivets at 15:58

Very thoroughly done video. I was trying to decide if I wanted to do this on a friends Corvette, I'm still thinking, lol.

Because of the age of the plastic around the window switches sometimes it is better to unscrew the switch

I watched this video several times and then followed the given instructions as on the video, and it all worked out great on my 1996 C4. Thanks for making this video, Could you do a video on the targa top seal ? That will be my next project.

Jeff I was just wondering could a sheet metal screw be used in place of the rivets? I'm not sure why they couldn't but I would like your advice. So far I've got the weather stripping on the windshield and A pillars, on the B pillar and on my Hatchback along with hood and hatchback struts. Still have the belt line weather strips/sweeps to go. I installed a new headliner which three days later fell out after the Velcro glue melted. 3M sent me some new Velcro that they felt would take the Texas heat. We'll see! I also learned a good lesson after installing the headliner. Make sure your Corvette is sitting on level ground when you try to put the tono back on because I'm here to tell you it won't on crooked parking.

You should be fine with screws, just make sure you use recess screws as you don't want them touching the glass.

So are there just a couple destroyed rivets rattling around inside the door now?
@PrecisionReplacementParts
@PrecisionReplacementParts 4 года назад
It's in an area where you don't have access to remove them. They are so small that you can hear anything moving around. If you still are bothered by the thought, you can drill out just the rivet head to remove the belt and leave it in the door. The clip will hold the belt plenty good without having to re-rivet the belt.
