ty.andrea Henderson lol! I’m in the same boat as you. I just bought an 84 C4 as well. Same thing. Car wash reveals a significant leak on the passenger side front corner of the side window. I ordered a full weatherstripping kit, and I’ll be installing it this spring. In the meantime, I have a tarp over the cabin until I fix it. I cringed at the thought of using a tarp, but I don’t have a car cover for it yet, or a garage to park it in.
Just replaced my windshield header gasket. It was easy. Thank you for the encouraging video. There isn’t much I can do work wise on my 1996 Vette. I’d advise anybody to do this. it was easy and took me all afternoon to get all the glue off of there but it looks like new again.
Duke i'm getting ready to do my 89 also , Any tips you can offer would be appreciated . This would be my first attempt at replacing weather strip on my 89 convertible
Frank it was my first time too, and it was easy as could be. Pull out the old weatherstrip, scrape out any gunk left behind, put down the sealant and push in the new weatherstripping. I used an old plastic spoon to work it down. The whole thing took me about 45 minutes start to finish, and I haven't had any problems with it since.
Thanks for the reply , I'm going to order the weatherstripping and sealant today from Ecklers , Did you use their sealant of do you have another source for the weather stripping and sealant ? I want to install a good quality weather stripping and sealant.
It's been a year so I'm not sure anymore, but as I recall it was a tube I got from an auto parts store, possibly Pep Boys. The Ecklers brand will work fine too, I'm sure.
I would like to add, that should adjust your targa top front bolt supports after doing this. The new weather stripping will likely be thicker than the original & by leaking the targa in the same adjustment position will cause you to over compress the newly installed weather stripping, and possibly compromising it's water proof integrity .......Ask me how I know.
I think it would be very helpful to see the bead of adhesive that you lay down before Inserting the weatherstrip. Also do you spread the adhesive or just leave it as a bead?
Question I have a 91 convertible soft top good condition but the plastic vinyl window is bad do you have to replace whole top or can a guy just replace the vinyl window?
Thanks for the good video. I'm getting ready to do mine. Question: it seems like the tntire bead of cement would have set up in way less time that you showed it took to install the seal. Would it not be better to maybe apply the cement in say 1 ft. lineal sections, apply that 1 ft. of seal, then proceed with the balance in the same manner? Thanks again.
Teddy Vee Hi Teddy, thanks for the comment! We're using 3M weatherstrip adhesive, part number 08011. It takes about an hour to cure so you should have plenty of time to apply the weatherstrip. However, if working alone and you're concerned about the length of time needed, then proceed as you suggested by working the top first followed by each of the sides.

Precision, do you have a video of replacing Side Weatherstrip Targa Top Side Seals For Chevy Corvette 87? These are the seals on the top of the window.
I have bought 4 of these moldings water pours in around door glass on both sided and makes a horrible wind noise. the molding comes in a small bag coiled up and it disforms the molding
I went out and pulled the top, hot here. There is no screw in the corner near the window and the inside trim that holds the top down. It appears to be a black plastic pin, both sides, but since the Precision weatherstrip I ordered, is not here yet, I can't pull the pin. I am concerned the pins will not be with the package and or there will not be enough. The pin is black and about 3/8" dia. head. My weatherstrip seems to be 2 piece, glued in the middle and yours seems to be one piece. Any thoughts please. Possible the pin is push into a tapped hole?
John, This weatherstrip including the original are all one piece. The sides (a piller) join the top section via the molded corners. If you look at the video at 1:30 & 4:40, there's a screw in the corner molds that needs to be removed and re-used. If you don't have this screw, you will need to purchase them as we don't supply them with the seal. We do supply the plastic push pins (4) for the molded ends which you can see at 9:20. Hope that helps.
$5k???? That's highway robbery at it finest! A 7 piece kit is around $700. To those who don't know: STAY AWAY from the Chinese w/s. Also, the latex w/s will tear easily if silicone spray/grease is not applied.
+hasbeengood We produce a very good quality weatherstrip. The original was an open cell latex covered seal. Ours uses the closed cell technology and has been hollowed out to compress well. Hard to say where we fit in, but certainly not an economy version. Everyone has their own perception about quality though.
