The wording on the sticker is actually traditional chinese it reads "Please remove batteries when not in use. Batteries leakage might damage the console. Warranty void when removed"
@ElliotColl Ahahahah I'm crying with the name of this console, gamate in greeklish= (greek with Latin characters) means "you (for many people) fuck" or "you are excellent" in slang swear language
I was expecting to see a lot of bodge wires and mystery chips, but that's a fairly nice design. Especially when compared to modern counterparts. Neat thing. Cool video.
Elli, ever thought about measuring the resistance of the working speaker? These plastic membrane speakers are mostly 8 ohms and very common in the " brick games " however the diameter is different, if the gamate use this , and game boys use 16 or 32 ohm speaker , you can pontentially kill the amp in your gamate, leaving you with only headphones work. I might check it if i were you.
When you opened the console i was expecting a bunch of micro chips. But actually there are more than in the original Game Boy. How is this possible ? How they managed to keep the price down for such a console full of compobents ? Especialy the screen side, is so full of micro chips X-D
1:05 - The text appears to be Chinese, these were probably imported to Japan but not properly localised. Although the pink sticky note says "junk" in Japanese, I love how it's actually pronounced "jank", which is rather fitting. ;)
These are crazy Taiwanese knock off of gameboy with GameGear layout, and PCE HuCard. It’s called Super kid. Wow... I thought they are only for Taiwan local, can’t believe they are available some where else
The reason for the sound not working could also be that it's being powered either too much ( and it died) or too little (and it's not working). I don't know if the gamate had a weaker or better speaker than the GBC
Sadly for 20 years I thought my Atari Lynx was broken...then I finally found a game (Checkered Flag) for $5 at a thrift store & realized it needed a game to turn on so it’d been working all these years
i remember when I was kid. I wanna this so badly. Lucky eventually I didn’t buy it because of they were out of stock! And I heard it is very bad quality, for $50 dollars price come with 10’free game cartridge
I remember this one. Seen every game store in Taiwan when I was a kid. However, everyone know it is a fake and Gameboy is not too expensive anymore when Gamate was released. It was the time that Taiwan's tech company tried to build anything under the sun. China was not able to do it during that time. China later became the manufacture of electronics after it stole all the resources from Taiwan.
I had this when I was very young, I remember being really upset that in that platformer game I couldn't kill enemies by jumping on them like mario did (I saw mario at a friend's house), My mom told me the enemies were poisonous so that was why. I barely played the thing, the other included game was awful too
Am amzed that thus cheap ass monochrome screen has so many huge controller chips on it, Also i would be not surprised if many components from the gameboy and gamemate may not only be compatible with eachother but they may do also originate from the same company ,mmm.
