www.mycorneronline.com/photog... Bridge from Laredo Texas to Laredo Mexico - January 10, 1990; International Bridge crosses Rio Grande River; Roadside drive of cactus; Video recorded by my Grandpa and his second wife Mary #larado
I was born in Laredo Texas in 1989. My mother’s water broke in Nuevo Laredo Mexico and she drove back home to Laredo Texas to give birth to me at a mid-wife’s office in downtown Laredo near where your grandfather recorded at the end of the video. Growing up in both Laredos in the early 90s was magical. It was very safe in Mexico then. Beautiful memories!
What a nice find! I was thinking about my life in Nuevo Laredo and tried finding some photos online from that era, but stumbled upon this video. My family and I used to live in Nuevo Laredo from mid-1989 to the end of 1990. I was only about 5-6 years old and I still have many memories of that time. I didn't speak or understand English then, but I used to enjoy watching the cartoons that came out on the local TV networks from Laredo across the border. Mostly from CBS and NBC. My favorite show was Pee-Wee's Playhouse. We used to go across the border to do some special shopping and go to the mall in Laredo. Now I live just outside of Houston.
My first memories growing up were of this era in Nuevo Laredo since I was born in 88. I really wish I could travel back in time to this era since it was such a great place to live in, now it's gotten dangerous.
I am much older than you and I remember when I first started saying "I wish I could travel back in time" to a former era. I feel old knowing you are saying it already!
Jinx Sanity I was born and raised here in Laredo. I've lived in several different cities over the years: Uvalde, TX, Del Rio, TX, Austin, TX, San Antonio, TX, San Pedro,CA, Palmdale, CA, and Homestead, FL. I still feel the safest right here in Laredo. 😊 I will say I don't feel safe in NUEVO LAREDO any more and that really makes me sad😢. I used to love going AC shopping and watching all the turistas in the Market. Last time I went, to NL, I no sooner got back on the Laredo side and all of a sudden there was machine gun fire on the Mexico side of the river. I haven't been close to the bridge since. So yeah it's dangerous but not on this side, YET. Wish it could be like it was when I was growing up. Good memories and good fun on both sides.
Thank you for posting this! It brings back a more bright picture of what Nvo Laredo used to be. Now it’s very dangerous to cross over. Near the end of the video, do you recall what street you were driving on ? You say you were traveling East.
@@lucathegamer9113 I would have to look it up, but I think it was in 2009. I was very blessed to have my Grandpa for a very long time, especially since he survived WWII and the Battle of the Bulge.
