In this video I attempt to start the ZX7 for the first time since reassembling it and then I make a complete an utter mess of the decal application.

Thanks for the video! I learned from watching to not even try to apply stickers. But, I think the bike is coming along very nice!

Cheers, decals have only defeated me once before, but this bike has so many compound curves in it. Waiting for the replacements now, I have a guy lined up to put them on.

I used to be a bike body work specialist in the mid 90's. I used to dread doing the decals on zxr's. Even using factory decals it was near enough impossible to get right. My solution in the end was to paint the stripes in the correct colour and then use a stencil for the lettering. Not 100% correct but the customers always seemed happy with the results!

Thanks for commenting Michael ! Yea I could see how painting it on would have been easier. I’ll definitely explore that if I end up doing another like it.

Don’t be so hard on yourself Dave! You’ve done a magnificent job with what you have done already. The paint looks amazing. Sometimes you just have to admit defeat and leave it to the pros. And I think you’re not far from that. Nice work.

Thanks Don. Im not sure what I'm more upset about, the fact I was defeated by the decals or the fact I have to spend more $ to buy new ones. I dont mind paying for stuff, I just dont like paying twice. LOL

Great work. I came to your channel for CB series, but subscribed because it is a good watch. I connected with the ultrasonic cleaner juice supplier in Mississauga - you had his product a while back. Thanks for that tip.

It’s coming on a treat my friend, you have done well.. & you do it yourself as opposed to throwing money at it for someone else to do. I ‘finally’ after months of searching, found an oem H2 exhaust silencer in Germany. It’s pretty scratched up so will take some wet sanding and polishing to bring it back to a reasonable condition…but that’s half the fun eh 👍🏼

Thanks for the kind words Wayne. I may have to throw some money at the local graphics guy to install the crazy decals this time lol. Nice you found an OEM silencer, the hunt for parts is fun.

That broken throttle cable at the throttle housing was exactly what happened to my j model hahaha!

This bike is coming along great and I'm excited to see it completed. Mine is almost done (1985 Honda VF1000r restoration) except for paint. I'd like to give back to you since I've gained from watching your work. I replate all of my fasteners at home in my basement and did a full video on the process from start to finish. If you're interested, drop by my channel and have a look. It's so rewarding to be able to put brand new looking hardware on the bike when reassembling it, and doing it at home, you can easily do a couple of pieces as you build. Thanks again for the work you do.

Awesom Lorne, I will definitely have. A look at your video, thanks a lot!!! I’m just starting a set of bodywork for my buddy’s VF1000R. Some of it it rough. I’ll have videos on that too

@@true-moto-resto if you need anything for the VF1000r, I can give you a name of a guy in Canada but you probably already know about Ron. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing your videos on that one.

@@lornetontegode6986 yes, thanks Lorne, I do know about RC30 Ron. The VF1kR I’m doing the work on now is just body work for a friend.

So I would have been better off lighting the $300 on fire that I just paid for a custom VF set of decals? I know it's probably frustrating for you, but that bike is looking freakin' fantastic man. Thanks for sharing the journey with us. I learn a lot from these.
@true-moto-resto

Thanks Matt. I think you’ll be good with the VF decals . They’re pretty straight forward to apply, there are no compound curves to deal with on that bike. The decal supply fully told me the zx7’s are brutal to install (as I now know). Apparently some of the other zx7’s are even worse

classified ads for sale ads online on places like Kijiji usually. plus I keep my ear to the ground. Some times when people know I collect bikes, they reach out to me.

Just wondering if you were to put it up for sale in that great rebuilt condition what would you ask for it? Just wondering what a bike in this great shape would go for ballpark

I’m not 100% sure to be honest. I’m not as familiar with Kawaaaki as others. A local collector told me at least 8500 CAD , but in the current market hard to say

@@true-moto-resto Kawasakis are bullet prove if maintained even decently. I had a 85 600 ninja bought ne in 6 yrs out 65k on it not one part faikled nothing, lots of tires brakes chains sprocket oil changes valve adjusts but other than rearset pegs I put on tail cover slip ons nothing ever failed still had original clutch stator etc all original replaced cables 1 time as precaution and a case of tail light bulbs, LEDs solved that issue all older bikes had. Old filament bulbs when hot vibration killed them but back then LED was not a option. kept 2 or 3 under seat and could swap in less than 10 seconds, got good at it LOL
