the funniest part about this video to me is that dude at the beginning w long hair talking to the two girls isn't actually brandon despite looking exactly like him.
In an interview Brandon said that the first time he heard himself really sing, in a recording studio for their demo, he left the building and almost couldn't do it. THANK GOODNESS he stuck with it! Living legends.
Kry Kry Stott you're right about Bungle, but they obviously didn't buy into the feud because they were also huge RHCP fans. In fact, in a recent interview, they got to pick the songs that opened and closed their interview. They chose one Primus and one RHCP song.
@@pechondelgado I think those two would work well together because both of them are far more focused on composing and playing tastefully than they are on showing off.
@@KickflipGnastyWhich is a fancy way of saying you can’t handle talented guitarists showing off how much they’ve progressed and learned their instruments
@@マシュードーラン how so? Two of my favorite guitar players of all time are Guthrie Govan and Steve Vai. I was just giving Mike and John props for being very focused on phrasing. I don’t see why the accusation. You don’t know shit about what I like.lol
I love both bands: RHCP and Incubus. Thanks for this video. It really helped me realize that they had much in common in the origins. Both sounds and styles can be merged into each other :) I do that in my band when playing the guitar as I’m influenced by both bands.
How would u know. They obviously had the mindset back then to be successful or they wouldn’t have ever been. I know it’s been 7 years but hopefully ur gone by now
it's no doubt they are heavily influenced by RHCP, both the hair, the way he styles himself, the bass sound and this slap riff.... if you want to discover something similar to rhcp sound try incubus's fungus amongus album. they re cool.
Dude this is the best!!! Brothers from another Mother right there! Amazing! Thank you for having this video and sharing it.❤ I know it's a little late but really man thank you! I need this in my life!
This footage is the raddest stuff on earth, please keep them coming, early stuff is the best, can't believe there was a recording like this and just aired til now, fucking amazing!
How fantastic is this?! Totally makes me smile. They've even got a crowd that know all their lyrics. It's super adorable. How bizarre would it be to see Brandon with that straight blonde hair now? :S 90's REPRESENT! *lol*
I always got a bit of a RHCP and Faith No More vibe from early Incubus.....and this basically confirms it lol. It's always cool to see how great artists start out....usually imitating what they love. But Incubus definitely went on to become something truly unique. Such a vastly underrated band. I still remember when Make Yourself came out. I was in high school and damn did it ever speak to me. I was basically into nu-metal at the time....cuz, you know, it was the late 90s and TRL and whatnot... While some of that music still holds up.....early Korn, Orgy's first two albums, Everything Tool and Deftones ever made, etc....most of it is pretty damn silly in retrospect. But somehow Incubus were lumped into that whole nu-metal thing...even though they weren't quite that. I remember being super interested in how jazzy it all sounded....it was much more influenced by things like funk and reggae and dub and jazz and weird cool r&b flavors....while ALSO having a bit of that nu-metal chunkiness. Anyone remember that Family Values 98(or was it 99?) tour album? The one with Incubus and Orgy and Korn and Limp Bizkit on it? lol....what a combo. I remember New Skin absolutely blowing my mind. Never heard anything quite that frenetic and strange....while having such an epic pretty chorus. Ok....I'll stop ranting about the past.... :P
@@diegoipl yeh man for sure. They played the whole concert on tv and i recorded it on cassette. I remember watching this then rewinding it and watching it again. Then i bought morning view ❤
Idgaf what fans say, science album will forever reign supreme in my mind. DJ lyfe had a hand in that 95-98 peak incubus sound, they were never able to recreate that when they kicked Lyfe outta the band
+Derpurs Machinest (Gamer88) it looks like Jose on the drums to me, you can kind of tell by the way he has his drums set up, plus his snare is always super low, that's my guess
I bet the guys get a KICK out of this, I sure do!!! It is remarkable how far they have come. I've been a fan since 1999, I'm with you guys until the end!
Damn, Dirk with that 1980s Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass (aka the “Duff” signature Fender bass that it is commonly known today) funking around with Brandon, Mike and Jose in 1991. That is THE PEAK 90s FUNK METAL sound! Man, that sound needs a comeback someday.

You need new friends brotha!! Your way too cool for people that don't like Incubus. OR can appreciate their awesome musicianship. Let me guess they like Bush, Kid rock and Nickelback? :)
look at wee mikey and brandon go!!! goddamn the men deserve where they are today. if you're ever bringing back the funk, i will be there. was that dirk on bass btw? ahhhh!!! epic!!! even in their teens!
It's funny and very interesting when you see the very beginning of a band. They knew about the use of art for playing music. They were teens and it's also unbelievable to see they were already talented. Many famous bands started young and you can realize this was just their destiny. You should stick to it. Sometimes it's rare when a early footage is shared. It was a very good idea. Great! Had red hair would have been cool. Ha!
Dirk Lance at that time was a fundamental part of the sound of the band, who departed worth both the creative vein of new sounds. But I always expect to return to create more funk songs as before.
You forgot to put the bassist, Dirk Lance's name in the title. ...He played bass on every album from the start to Morning View (pretty much all their good albums) and was one of the co founders of the band. His amazing bass sound and skill was a huge part why Incubus had such a great sound......and sadly when he left, their sound suffered greatly as they went into a much more pop friendly direction.......
Ha wow so going off the briefly visible house number on above the right hand garage door I was able to find this house. It's 26051 Mulholland hwy. I wonder if it's one of the guys houses or somebody they went to school with? Either way it hasn't changed much at all! Pics on zillow show the interior and it looks like it hasn't been updated since the 70s. Says it Sold for over a mill in 2017. EDIT upon further investigation I found this to be a former address of one charles boyd aka Chuck Mulholland aka Brandon's dad,so this is Brandon's childhood home and explains where the Mulholland came from in chuck Mulholland.
