As the 1991 season progressed Kenny McKinstry and Robbie Philpott were poised in a unique position. Having secured the Group N title with two rounds to spare, they now found themselves in the hunt for the overall title along with James Cullen and Bertie Fisher. To aid their quest they jumped ship to a Group A Sierra Cosworth for the Cork 20 to try and help their chances. The risk paid off with McKinstry winning the event with Fisher and Cullen both retiring leaving McKinstry leading the championship with just one round remaining.

So what happened in the end ? Anybody got the 91 rally of the lakes to finish the story off ? For all of us who were living abroad in the pre internet days. Great video. All legends 👍

I have them all on vhs somewhere. Fisher won the 91 lakes. But not sure about the overall championship. I was only a young fella around the Gleneagle on the Saturday night getting autographs . I got Frank Meagher, Bertie Fisher, and Mark Lovell who was over on the beer for the weekend with Phil Collins. Great memories. Alot of those legends no longer with us

@@mairesavage6815 I got Nikolay Bolshik autograph that weekend aswell. He couldn't speak a word of English and looked genuinely confused as to why this 10 year old kid wanted him to sign a piece of paper. His name has gone into legend down this part of the world even 30 years on

@@hollyhillbilly1747 thanks a million. You’re right they were all legends. It’s great to hear that Mark Lovell was here. He really loved the irish rally scene as much for the Craic as well as the competition. Phil Collins still coming for the historics. Mind those autographs they are priceless now. Would love to see 89 and 91 Rally of the lakes as this is my favorite rally and I missed them all as I was living abroad 👍
