1982 auto school grad here... 3 tips for the longest lasting repair: 1) Have a torque wrench to tighten things down to manufacturer's specifications. 2) The cleaner the gasket surfaces are before putting things back together, the longer the seal would last. Razor blade, soft wire brush, and brake cleaner works. 3) Best to apply silicone grease to the rubber boot of plug wires, not the metal contacts. Great job! Like seeing what's involved before tackling a project. Thank you for sharing!
Brother i gotta thank you,I have a 1992honda accord lx and had the same issue minus the spark plug wires, great tutorial and you made a beginner make it easy, great job and keep up the good work .
jayboc5 was wondering if your car was smoking white smoke?, i decided to change spark plugs then noticed plugs full of oil and white smoke, was told i needed to replace seals, so thanks to your video i followed your instructions i did it and no more smoke, i never installed the rubber rings cause i saw them on your bench, no problems , i have 225,00 miles on the original enginal, thank you again
Rudy Valverde if I remember right' there was no white smoke. And there isn't any now for sure. I'm still driving it every day. Sometimes over 200 mikes or more a week. It's running good.
When I did my first head gasket I removed the rocker assembly and it fell apart on me and I over tightened everything so my plug wells flooded with oil again lol. Now I always use a torque wrench. I usually use a shop vac with a funnel at the end to suck out anything that's where it shouldn't be.
Good Job! Easy to follow along. Glad I saw your video. Easy Peasy. Was gonna have my mechanic do it but decided to check out a video on my car. Thanks again.
There is 4 more gaskets. You gotta take the cam out I think yo get to them. That's the ones that stops the oil from getting to the spark plugs. But you did a great job. No I'm not a mechanic but I had to do mines. Lol
Tommy the solution would be the valve cover bushings correct? I’m currently leaking oil out of the gasket cover from my 88 accord and I’m not tryna take it to a mechanic for expensive labor
Great job and nice video, just had to sit like Rain Man to watch it. lol Did your valve cover gasket set come with 4x black O-rings that were the same size as the spark plug hole rings? I had 4x in mine, but have no idea what they are for. I'm guessing they are for a different year engine, but not sure. Thought maybe you discovered the same thing and asked your mechanic. :)
+AFHero66 yes, the gasket orings did come with my kit. and yes i did ask my mechanic about it. and the sit right in like i showed in the video. they dont look like they are gona fit cuz they more of an oval shape. but as i pushed them into the grove they fit perfectly.
+AFHero66 I think he means the extra O rings that were left sitting on your work table. Those O rings are supposed to go under the valves. You have to remove the valves to get to the location. After the valve cover is removed and you look into the spark plug holes, you will see the and feel there is a crack in the tubes about half way down. those extra O rings are supposed to be put in there. There are more youtube videos available that will show you exactly where and how to do this.
Lol I think it’s funny you have oil leaking into you spark plug ports and you don’t put the O-rings with your spark plug gasket you will still get oil in your spark plug ports
@@jayboc5 Damn. Those are great cars. I love my 98 accord, almost 352k on the original engine and transmission! It's the reason I got into cars and the reason I even found this video :)
