I always thought the 91 and 92 teams had the best skill players and most explosive offenses of the Holtz era... Tony Rice had the luxury of having Rocket, Ricky Watters, Mark Green, Anthony Johnson, Derek Brown, etc, but was nowhere near the passer that Rick Mirer was.. I still don't know how Mirer didn't pan out after seeing the phenomenal throws he made to Tony Smith at 4:24 and Derek Brown at 5:50 that had Bill Walsh raving about how not many NFL quarterbacks could make that throw.. This team was loaded at the skill position (Bettis, Brooks, and WIllie Clark in the backfield) and Tony Smith, Lake Dawson, Clint Johnson, Derek Brown and Irv Smith catching passes....
Them was the days when notre dame could get the top talent but new athletic director change the academic standards on holtz because its all about education lol .. the only person that would have saved holtz job for a few more years was randy moss ..
